Sending to my ntlworld email bounces with recipient's domain not matching

This or something very similar was supposedly fixed apparently, about 25 days ago.

Since yesterday it has been recurring on my VM Ntlworld address:

I can send e-mails as normal, but I have been receiving Whatsapp messages from people telling me that the e-mails they are sending to me are failing (example failure message below). This re-started on the 2nd May 2025 as far as I know. Some e-mails appear to be getting through - exactly the same problem that arose about 4 weeks ago.

host mxin10.virginmedia.com[84.116.6.18] refused

Is anyone else getting the same problem, again?

Getting a bit fed up with VM reliability

Will this get through to the Virginmedia technical support staff?

It's nothing whatsoever to do with the problem with the ntlworld, com domain in early April.

The problem you are currently seeing is limited to emails sent from @cloud.com  and @me.com (so Apple Mail) accounts.

Virgin Media is rejecting those emails because some or all of Apple's MTA's (mail servers) are currently not set up correctly. That appears to be down to a change that Apple has recently made.

It has been widely reported on the Apple forum and elsewhere but Apple appear to be unwilling to make any changes to resolve the situation for their customers.

I don't use Apple products myself, but Apple users report that there is a workaround.

if they log into iCloud.com on the web and send their email from there, (so the equivalent of VM's webmail), emails sent to VM accounts are received with no problems.

Just edited to add that the current issue with @icloud and @me email accoutres affects all the VM email domains not just ntlworld.

I’m having the same issue with both iCloud and  gmail emails not being delivered to my ntlworld email

Hi Anonymous thanks for your post although we're sorry to hear of the concerns you've raised here.

Are the senders getting an error message of any sort, and does it differ between the two email address senders, or is the error the same?

      Many thanks

Yes, it’s the same error message for both email accounts, they also was sent from a iPhone

        Cheers

  • I'm getting reports of this too. Sending from iCloud to an @blueyonder.co.uk email address using an iPhone.

Looks like an Apple configuration issue with VM being too strict in their email settings. VM probably need to relax their rules for emails coming from Apple/iCloud?
