Auto forwarding Ntlworld emails to Gmail

I have been auto forwarding my Virgin emails to Google Mail for years but I have had a message come up saying Gmail will soon stop displaying emails in its desktop format if they have been forwarded using POP, which I think I am currently using.

The message says to set up auto forwarding from, in my case, Virgin but I can't see an option to do that.

Is there one?

  • Sign into your Virgin email account and go to Settings, then E-mail and select Auto forward. Turn it on and enter your Gmail address. Hope that works. 🤞

You can also change your Gmail account setting from POP to IMAP.

Even better, just archive off your VM email, and migrate to GMail.  It may be a hassle, but will be worth it in the long run.

but, as the article mentions, setting forwarding to Gmail from a VM mailbox can also have its own problems if Gmail starts identifying spam being forwarded from the VM email address.

As per suggestion from Adduxi, your best bet for any VM email address in the long run is to try to get rid of it by migrating logins and services elsewhere. Once done, have the VM mailbox deleted or, if it is a primary account, secure it and use it only for VM purposes.

One of the problems with VM mail is it's rubbish at identifying spam where Gmail on my Chromebook puts any spam emails that VM let through in the spam folder. Not had any problems with it putting anything wrong in there.
