Outlook 2013 and NTLWORLD email settings.

Hi,

Hope someone can help.

Had to reinstall Win 10 on my machine and all was well until I had to configure Outlook 2013 to get messages from my NTLWORLD account.

Used the following settings:-

SMTP server name smtp.ntlworld.com       Port 25

POP3 server name pop.ntlworld.com         Port 110

SMTP server name smtp.ntlworld.com       Port 465

POP3 server name pop3.ntlworld.com       Port 995

SMTP server name smtp.virginmedia.com  Port 465

POP3 server name imap.ntlworld.com       Port 993

Majority of time I get the message(s):-

Log onto incoming mail server (POP3): The operation timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).

Send test e-mail message: The operation timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).

Can someone advise what the setting should be?

  • Hey Tubby1, thank you for reaching out and I am sorry to hear this.

As Outlook 2013 is nearly ten years old Microsoft has stopped doing any updates for this.

    I would try these settings;

    • Server: imap.ntlworld.com.
    • Port: 993.
    • Security: SSL/TLS.
    • Username: Your full email address.
    • Password: Your password.

    Cheers

      Matthew,

When I last confired Outlook was around 5 years ago and I was using a POP3 account.

      The values I used were:-

SMTP server name smtp.ntlworld.com       Port 25

      POP3 server name pop.ntlworld.com         Port 110

You have just given me one part of the settings. Can you expand please.

  • Matt,

Thank you for your assistance so far.

I cannot update Outlook 2013 due to the cost, as I said in a previous post, I had to relad my PC, prior to that I was able to receive my Emails down to Outlook 2013.

The latest error I am getting is :-

Send test e-mail message: Cannot send the message. Verify the e-mail address in your account properties. The server responded: 530 5.1.0 Authentication Required (VM401)

Can you help with the error?

I have downloaded the Virgin Media app and can login to the app.

      Sorry to hear this.

With it being outlook 2013 this is something we wouldn't support anymore.

We've made a lot of updates to emails in the past month ourselves.

I have been looking into this and I have found out  support for Office 2013 ended on April 11, 2023, which means when we made the latest software updates this is why its not working sorry,

Outlook will stop working  due to several reasons, like incompatible add-ins, DLL files problem, lost or corrupted PST file, and more due to newer software updates.

I would suggest using the the app to check the emails or set them up on your phones app such as Mail.

Unless you upgrade it you won't be able to use Outlook 2013 for emails sorry.  Cheers

  • Matt,

    Outgoing server Options are:-

My Outgoing servers (SMTP) requires authencation and Logon to incoming mail before sending mail

    Advanced Tab says :-

    Error message is:-

Send test e-mail message: Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).

Tubby1 That screen shot shows that you still have not entered your authentication details in the Outgoing server settings.  Either select use the same as incoming or enter your email address and password in the log in fields.
