NTLWorld E-mail Inaccessible on Thunderbird

Hi All

I did the verification to create the new unified password for VM/O2 ages ago (so I could log in and watch Sky Sports etc on Tv Anywhere via a browser) and ever since I have been unable to access my NTLWorld account on Thunderbird (or indeed in any browser).

Can anyone please help return my access to the ntlworld e-mail account please.

Thanks

You need to generate a Mail app password to use in the settings in Thunderbird. That is a separate password to the one you use to access your VM account on the VM website. It's in the format word-word-word-word.

Sign into the My Virgin media account for the email concerned using your VMO2ID
    Select Account Settings
    Select Identity & Security Settings
    Select Manage your products
    Select Manage email app password
Click on the blue button 'Get New Password'

Once you have copied the new mail app password, I find the easiest way to update the settings in Thunderbird is to use the pop up error message that comes up when it fails to access the VM server.

That pop up gives you the option to enter the correct password so just paste the mail app password  in and make sure you choose the option to update the settings in Thunderbird.

  • I had seen that on the site but was wary of doing that in case it replaced the word-word-word-word-word password that was generated for my account to access VM/O2.

I realise they have different amounts of words but thought with VM's track record it was just an error on the page itself!

So this password for the email is completely separate from the multi word generated password VM/O2 have created that I use for VM Tvanywhere etc ?

Just want to check before I start accidentally locking myself out of web sites thanks :-)

charscot  The five word 'account recovery code' that was generated by the VMO2 ID process is not the account password but a recovery code for use in the event that your account is locked out by VM.  For day to day access to the VMO2ID account you use the password that you chose or an alternative verification method such as a passkey.  For access to VM webmail and apps such as TV Go you use the VMO2ID and chosen password.  For email access via an email client such as Thunderbird you use the four word generated app password.
