NTL email password problems

My NTL.com emails access stopped working about a month ago.  If I try to login now I get a message saying " currently unavailable". I am still with Virgin and can access my VM account using the original ntlworld  email* and p/w. I've never used this particular email address other than as a requirement to login to VM account (or previously Nynex or NTL)

If I look in "Manage other VM accounts" it lists 4 other ntlworld email addresses with the only option being to delete them. However the main ntlworld email address that I have used for the past X years is not listed there. (This is different from the one mentioned above at * )

If I try to follow the instructions given in the error message (after first changing a/c password as instructed in step 1) I can get no further in step 2 than "Tap Manage next to Manage your VM mail app password".  There is no "Tap Manage next to ...". So I'm unable to do step 2.

It's the same with web site on laptop or through app on phone.

Coincidentally I have just renewed my contract with VM for the next 2 years.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Chris

    1)  I am still with Virgin and can access my VM account using the original ntlworld  email* and p/w.

    Those two statements show that:

    1. you currently have a live VM broadband contract but:-
    2. the affected Ntlworld email account does not seem to be linked to it. Perhaps it was created under a previous VM contract?

The problem for you now is that VM stopped issuing new email accounts back in 2022 and since then they have been closing down (deleting) old VM email accounts that are no longer linked to a live paid for VM service. See this link for details of that -

    https://community.virginmedia.com/blog/Digital-life/some-important-information-if-you-have-a-virgin-media-email-account/5607207

In that case, your Ntlworld email account is at serious risk of being deleted by VM.

Therefore you need to contact VM support  to see about getting the problem Ntlworld email account linked to your current VM broadband account.  Sadly there are limitations on them doing that. The Forum Team (VM staff who support thsi forum) are best placed to advise and help you with that. One of the team will contact you via this thread in the next day or so.

Just for additional information, when you say :

"I can get no further in step 2 than "Tap Manage next to Manage your VM mail app password".  There is no "Tap Manage next to ...".

The most likely reason for that is that you have not yet specified a non VM email address to become your VM username.

You will have to do that because it is another requirement that VM have brought in. Your non VM email account will then become the username that you enter when you sign into your VM account on the VM website and the address that VM will use to send verification emails.. It will not change your VM email address or account.

  • Coenoby,

     Thanks for the info'.

That sort of makes sense as the ntlworld accounts were made many years ago and I have just recently renewed my contract with VM. But it doesn't explain why 4 ntlword email addresess (5 if you include the "master " email) are there  (i.e linked to the original account -  and my account number has not changed).

I'll await contact from the team, otherwise I guess it's onto the dreaded help line phone queue.

    Re the additional information".

Maybe it is related to the email address loss. VM obviously have registered with them a non VM email for me which they use to contact me. Maybe they've created another account for me that I don't know about and that has the missing email address linked to it. My user name is still an original ntlworld address.

     Who knows

     Thanks,

The old email system of primary and secondary accounts no longer exists.  Vm have made a “security” change to mailbox’s and their management.  So in your case you will end up with 5 new 3rd party email addresses to manage your old 5 NTL mailboxes. It’s all become very messy IMHO.
