Mail app password needed over multiple devices

I have had a Virginmedia mail account for many years now and I understand the process to get a mail app password but why is it that when I enter that password on my iPhone everything works fine but when I then check my mail on my iPad I have to obtain another mail app password for that device and then another password for outlook on my desk top computer? If I then check mail on my iPhone once more I have to obtain yet another password, it ends up being an annoying merry go round! Can anyone advise please?

    You should use the same generated four word password for each device.  Continually generating new ones means that you will have to update each device with the new password.
