it’s on all my devices, I bought something off Amazon yesterday and no email, I bought something off Vinted yesterday and the email arrived today not instantly as before. I have saved watches on eBay that usual email me approx 20 emails daily when stock arrives to now only receiving 3 or 4 not the usual 20. Something is going on ??

        Likewise!

Over the last few days I have noticed that emails are not arriving in a timely fashion; if at all - I have little confidence that all emails sent to me are actually reaching me, delayed or otherwise!

This is particularly frustrating when trying to access accounts that use 2FA with codes with expiry timescales as the email with the code does not arrive in time.

As such, Virginmedia's email system is actually preventing me (and no doubt many others) accessing important accounts, including my Bank and Credit Card providers!!!

@Robert_P You say: "We aren't currently aware of any known email issues"... Well, perhaps you should read your Forums then as there are plenty of reports!

  • I'm seeing multiple bounces on emails sent to NTLWorld accounts. They all show the same "Message expired: unable to deliver in 840 minutes." error.

Messages sent use DMARC, DKIM and SPF. The messages are not spam and sent to members who have requested them.

For example, I got this bounce message from Amazon Web Services:

    {"notificationType":"Bounce","bounce":{"feedbackId":"010b018f67ca9d4c-f756af4c-1e5f-4cef-bd1f-2ec1ed06b054-000000","bounceType":"Transient","bounceSubType":"General","bouncedRecipients":[{"emailAddress":"Graham Anderson ","action":"failed","status":"4.4.7","diagnosticCode":"smtp; 550 4.4.7 Message expired: unable to deliver in 840 minutes."}],"timestamp":"2024-05-11T13:14:42.000Z","remoteMtaIp":"84.116.6.18","reportingMTA":"dns; d218-1.smtp-out.eu-west-2.amazonses.com"},"mail":{"timestamp":"2024-05-10T22:36:04.640Z","source":"Andy Henderson ","sourceArn":"arn:aws:ses:eu-west-2:658229544723:identity/portsmouthctc.org.uk","sourceIp":"82.165.84.93","callerIdentity":"root","sendingAccountId":"658229544723","messageId":"010b018f64a632a0-2da72ef1-b2ea-44ab-8da6-319f5a9bcfa2-000000","destination":["Graham Anderson "],"headersTruncated":false,"headers":[{"name":"Date","value":"Fri, 10 May 2024 22:36:04 +0000"},{"name":"From","value":"Andy Henderson "},{"name":"Message-ID","value":""},{"name":"X-Mailer","value":"PHPMailer 6.9.1 (https://github.com/PHPMailer/PHPMailer)"},{"name":"MIME-Version","value":"1.0"},{"name":"Content-Type","value":"multipart/alternative; boundary=\"b1=_wxNfqdlCrshykVN0MEsgO5lNKuSKIdL2bCmgJEPQAQ\""},{"name":"To","value":"Graham Anderson "},{"name":"Subject","value":"PCTC Update - 10 May 2024"}],"commonHeaders":{"from":["Andy Henderson "],"date":"Fri, 10 May 2024 22:36:04 +0000","to":["Graham Anderson "],"messageId":"","subject":"PCTC Update - 10 May 2024"}}}

It’s been a week so why has it taken so long to let us know?

  • Same problem here , emails over the past 2 or 3 days have been arriving late (hours or days late) & a lot of 2fa and order confirmations are not arriving at all!

It would be helpful to gather the headers of some of the mail that s arriving late, as this may also help deal with the issue of the missing mail.

To do so open a message in Webmail then in the top right of the message click the 3 lines (to the right of the Delete link then click view source

Copy the text in the box that appears and paste it here.

     https://mxtoolbox.com/EmailHeaders.aspx

Select Analyse - save the graph image and paste it in a post like so.

The image above shows a 42 second delay in VM's servers accepting the mail.  Not too bad in this instance.  But I'm willing to bet that any delay will similarly be at the point where it hits VM's servers.

I've just tried that on an email verification email that was sent at 2042 yesterday evening and received at 0849 this morning, as reported on my MS Outlook email client.  Unfortunately, the webmail for VM email appears to have amended the email's sent time to around 3s before the received time, which makes it look like it was received fairly quickly.

I have still to receive the order confirmation from Amazon, which would have been sent before the one above, so it looks like that one has just been lost.

  • I became aware of exactly the same issue, happening to my ntlworld email account yesterday.  I'd bought something on Amazon, which always generates a confirmation email(s), and was also missing several email verification emails from an online greetings card seller.

I've reported it and was told that the issue would be investigated, over the course of the next 3-5 days.

Today, I'll probably be starting the process of moving all of my online accounts to a new email address, as VM appears to be winding down its provision of email services and this issue might just be a sign of that.

Virgin Media occasionally get these hiccoughs in the email service, however I do know it's happened to other ISP's as well.   Based on some of the posts I've read, I suspect it's down to their greylisting not working as intended.  However it's nice to be able to get evidence together, as the Forum Team can pass this along to the email teams.

This is why I posted how to gather the information above.  The graph doesn't have any personal information but should tell VM where the issue lies.

  • That Amazon order confirmation email has finally emerged.  It was sent at 1912 yesterday and dropped into my inbox at 1026 this morning.

The subsequent Amazon status update emails are still appearing hours late, with the exception of one that appears to have somehow bucked the trend, by "only" taking 71 minutes to arrive.

Safe to say that this issue has yet to be fully resolved.

  • I had a phone call from a VM engineer earlier, who assured me that they know what the problem is and that it will be fixed in the next couple of days.
