Email login asking for two factor authentication problem

This morning the Virgin login page has changed completely and is asking me to set up two factor authentication. There has been no advanced warning of this so I'm not sure that it's genuine so have not gone ahead with this. Therefore I can't access my emails or any other part of the Virgin site.

Having seen other posts I assume this is a Virgin problem and not mine.

Will the sign in page go back to as it was? I have a lot of important emails I need to read and send and at the moment I appear to be locked out.

Are you able to let us know when this will be fixed. Thanks

Not a peep from virgin about this. Me, you and prob thousands upon thousands in the same boat. It certainly won't go back to the previous page as they've changed it.

  • I am in the same position as you and many others since yesterday morning. Have tried the verification page numerous times since yesterday and still nothing.

This is really bad as email is so important now for various things and some organisations insist on contacting you in this way. Companies House for example.

If we have to use two factor authentication what does that involve? I don't have a mobile phone so I couldn't verify that way.

I wasn't offered Virginmedia email because they had already stopped new accounts. But I don't understand why some people stay with it and have to keep complaining on here when it doesn't work.

I've had Gmail and Hotlink email for many years and never had any problem with them. Why don't you do the same? Is it just too much trouble to change?

It's not just email that's being affected. Users have not been able to log into their Virgin accounts.

I have had that e-mail address for 26 years, that's a lot of online services I would have to change the e-mail for if I want to change it (and I have other emails already). From HMRC to vendors of all sorts.

Yes, the new VMO2ID was launched on Monday without a single communication from VM to anyone, AFAIK.  I have managed to follow the new link and register via a text authorisation code.  You can still use a password if needed and get authorisation via an email link if you don't have a mobile.

  • As others have said - this is genuine  :: I went through the procedure yesterday ; luckily, I have been slowly moving my emails to a gmail address, so was partly prepared.

No communication from VM about the sudden changed tho'.....!!!

  • I tried to go through this yesterday, tried to verify via my gmail, and all it did was loop back to the start of the process, very annoying!

  • Have now been able to get into my account this morning by following the setup process for a VirginO2 identity which involve sending a link to another email address then sending me a code via text. I was then able to link the VirginO2 identity to my Virgin account. What a complete shambles it's been. Virgin should be fined by the regulator for this.

Thanks to all those on this forum who have helped with this matter. Don't know what I'd have done without their help.

What if you are not with O2 though? Would it still work?
And if this is some genuine process, why was there no warning at all?
I have been through this kind of chaos twice before, and it always eventually resolved itself but this getting ridiculous.

You can skip the bit about an O2 account.  I don’t have one and it worked okay

      Hi Itshim,

Sorry to hear you are having a similar issue, and you have not been able to access your my VM account. We want to do our best to help from here. Just to confirm, what happens when you are trying to log in? Do you get an error message? Were you able to complete your VM02 login as seen here?

      Thanks,
