Concerned Virgin.Net eMail Users

I, like many others here have received the dreaded "Action needed: We’re closing your email account" email. I'd like to suggest that forum members who are going to be adversely affected by this course of action leave their user name here. Hopefully someone at Virgin Media will take note of the pain and inconvenience this will cause and reconsider.

Moderators, please merge or discard this post if such a list already exists. Thank you.

Mr_Crabbit : Five currently active virgin.net email addresses, used by me, my wife and daughters. Customer since January 1997. Addresses used for many site logins.

Whilst waiting for the forum team…

Judging from other posts it seems best to start a new thread if concerned at receiving “Action needed: We’re closing your email account” notifications.

AFAICS the main criteria for reprieve seems to be:

    • you are currently a Virgin Media broadband customer
    • the latter and virgin.net account are held under the same account holder name
    • you are prepared to replace all your current email addresses with your virgin.net email addresses

FWIW even if reprieved do give consideration to migrating to another email service provider to benefit from:

    • not restricting your choice of broadband supplier due to fear of losing email accounts
    • better security
    • spam handling

It's a small 'improvement' on VM's previous approach which was simply to delete the .net email addresses with no warning at all!

  • Same as above.  What is the way to keep it active? (even if that means getting a subscription!)

  • Same for me - I have a current VirginMedia account but my ,net email address was setup in the old dialup days but I still use and need that email address! Help!

Hi kenat79, thank you for your response.

In order to look into this for you further, we'll send you a private message on here. Look out for the envelope in the top right-hand corner.

If you're on a portable device with a smaller screen, click on the icon in the top right-hand corner and select "messages" from the additional menu options.

        Regards,
        Daniel

      Hi Sabrina

I'm mid contract for TV, Internet and Land Line - the .net email addresses go back to dialup days so we don't want to loose them!

Shall I let you know my account number here or will you message me directly?

      Thanks

      Ken (kenat79)

        Hi kenat79

Welcome back to the community forums

Sorry to hear you're also concerned with the older emails being closed.

I can see that you're already being supported on this by one of my colleagues over private messages. They'll be able to assist you further, so if you've any further questions please direct them to your already opened private message.

  • I can't believe I'm reading this! Three years ago I was told the same but with some notice. I said I still used it and they said it was no longer secure or supported by them and had been handed to Talktalk! I contacted them who knew nothing about it. As I had started getting a lot of nasty spam I decided to close it and informed them. But it wouldn't close and they said they couldn't delete it as it was a redundant account. So I didn't want it and they couldn't get rid of it. It had my actual name on it, was out there and insecure and still receiving spam! After years of to and froing they finally deleted it last year. So good luck with it!
