My wife has used a school email address as the login email for her virginmedia email account
She is to leave this job soon and so will loose access to this account , which is needed for security confirmation etc
What needs to be done to change the log in email address?
Has anyone done this - and how easy/ difficult was it?

You can do that via the My Virgin Media Account as Adduxi has advised.
You will have to go through the ID verification process but that should simply be an email to the existing sign in email account.

It makes a refreshing change to see someone actively seeking to update their login (or even contact) email address for their VM account, rather than leave it until after the horse has bolted so to speak.
(It's always advisable to inform companies of changes of email address and alternative email addresses to be used, as stated in most contracts - failure to do so can result in loss of access to the OP's emails, also their interactions with other companies that have that as a contact address. This is often linked with a failure to make their own backups resulting in deletion of what may be precious contents )
I believe you just change the email in your "MyVM" account when you login.
