Help please

Hi I've recently purchased a new TV so had my old Panasonic disconnected but we wanted to put it in our son's room the problem I have is that the picture is great but we can't get any sound we've done a factory reset and still no sound we had a sonos playbar which I think was connected to the virgin box but having factory reset surely should have sorted the issue the picture is beautiful it seems such a shame anyone have any ideas please greatly appreciated..

What’s the model number of the TV?  Are you using the original remote and fresh batteries?  Have you tried the headphone socket?

Model no is TX-L42ET5B and yes I know it's thirteen years old but was fine before being disconnected from 360 box and playbar and picture is excellent

  • Make sure the sound isn't muted, if your using more than one remote, check each remote e.g. any boxes you've connected to the TV as well as the TV remote, and anything plugged into the headphone socket or other sockets that would also mute the TV speaker sound. Check the sound settings in the TV  as well as menu's in any boxes or web apps connected.

You don't mention if the TV sound does not work on Freeview TV or via an HDMI input.

Could it be the Sonos was connected to the TV and the TV is set to output sound via the optical port only  ?

You haven't answered Adduxi's previous questions.

Do you get sound if you go to Settings > Audio & Video > Audio Output > and select PCM 2.0 from the three available options?

Is there a headphone adaptor plugged into the headphone socket ?

What happens if you plug a pair of headphones into the headphone socket on the side of the TV? Is any sound heard through the headphones?

This might help establish if the TV can produce any audio at all. There seems to be a separate setting for the headphone volume in the sound menu according to the manual.

A bit of Googling throws up a hidden function called 'Hotel Mode' for Panasonic TVs

    https://discover.hubpages.com/technology/Hotel-Mode-Panasonic-Televisions

and one of the comments mentions using it with a soundbar to mute the internal speakers by setting 'Maximum VOL level' to 0 (which then allowed the sound only to come from the soundbar and still be controlled by the TV remote).

Do you have any tech wizards in the family who may have enabled this feature to get sound only through the soundbar?

Some other references mention this feature becoming stuck on even after a factory reset.

The hotel mode feature does seem to have the potential to lock you out of your TV so be cautious in how you use it when investigating! You could, however, try calling up the function and see if any of the settings may be causing your sound issue.

You only get Freeview channels if an aerial is connected.

It's still not clear if you tried a TV app.

  • If all fails you might need a TV repair man to look at the TV something might need fixed inside it.
