WiFi poor optimisation

Lately, the Wi-Fi speed in some rooms has been fluctuating between 5 and 50 Mbps. On certain devices, a Speedtest shows over 100 Mbps, while at the same time, another device might only get 5 Mbps. I already have one black booster — could I get another one to help rule out weak signal issues? Alternatively, would it be possible to upgrade to the newer hub? The current one is a Hub 4.

Thanks

Placing Wi-Fi Repeaters / VM pods too far from the VM Hub is the most common reason they fail to work as expected.

The VM Pod must be placed where there is a good signal from the VM Hub,  if the VM Pod has been placed in a room with a very weak Hub signal the outcome may be considerably worse that having no VM Pod at all.

That’s not the case here. The POD is positioned just outside the room with the Hub and is connected via Ethernet. The house has internal Ethernet wiring, but some rooms—possibly by mistake—don’t have a port, and those rooms end up suffering. That’s why I’m asking for my extra 2 Pods to cover the whole house, or latest router if that helps.

Welcome back to the Community, and thanks for taking the time to post. I’m sorry to hear of the issues that you’re experiencing with your connection at the moment.

Have you been able to resolve your issues with the help of newapollo, or do you still require further assistance?

      Kind Regards,

Hello Steven, unfortunately it didn’t help. Valid points from newappolo but the Pod has great connectivity due to its location and connected via Ethernet indirectly with the Hub. If I move it, it won’t be close to the Hub. Therefore I cannot use the Pods “fair” signal to perform refreshes. If I tap on the device(s) with poor signal it prompts me to “let’s improve it” but there’s no improvement. App won’t advise I need more, that is why I’m asking here for more Pods.

    Hi Alex_fxdx

Bumping your post places it at the back of the queue. Forum staff take 2-3 days to reply to posts.

You need to run more checks via the Virgin Media Connect App.

Once the App is open select the Broadband option from the bottom menu. This will display the My Devices page. Click on the My Network tab/icon. This screen will show you how many devices are connected to the Hub/each Pod. Tap on a Pod for more information and then tap Connection from this list.

If fair is showing, this indicates that the Pod you already have may not be in the optimum place for performance. It is advised that you choose another location in the home, allow 2-3 minutes for the Pod to reconnect (wait for the light on the Pod to stop flashing) and then re-open the app and try again.

The app can be refreshed from the My Network or My Devices page by dragging downwards from the center of the screen. Tap Let's improve it to progress to the Refresh WiFi screen. (Note: Refreshing the WiFi can take up to 15 minutes.) Placement Tips can be used to help you decide where to try placing the Pod within your home.

Once all this has been done, it should advise whether another pod will help. If so, please screenshot this and post here and a member of VM Forum Staff should be able to order another pod for you.

Folks will spend £x,xxx on UHD TVs and iPhones, but baulk at a few hundred for some decent home network components to get it all to work well and to be under their control.
