Virginmedia Hub 3 Red Light on

Hi, I've just noticed my Hub 3 is showing a Red light ! not a White light.I have recently upgraded to TV360 and increased my speed to 500mb.I've googled the problem and some post say it's " OVERHEATING " and can be DANGEROUS !! and it  needs to be replaced. Can anyone HELP with this problem ?

  • The Hub 3 will cope with anything reasonable (including speed & the TV360) provided that it is not on the way out.  They’re all pin the way out!

  • Hello dcimwright

Sorry to hear of the hub red LED issues, we understand the concern and appreciate you raising this via the forums.

There can be a number of reasons for the red LED on the Hub, it can be due to overheating. If this is the case we would recommend not using the hub unattended and following these steps:

    • Turn the power switch off on the back of the Hub.

    • Ensure the Hub is upright, in a well-ventilated location and out of direct sunlight, if possible.

Alternatively it could be a faulty LED, either way I will send you a Private Message, please keep an eye out in the top right when signed into the forums for the envelope. This is where you will be able to find my Private Message and be able to respond.

A faulty LED does not show red.  It goes pale if faulty.  I the Hub is warm/hot, then, as FT have said, do not operate the Hub unattended due to fire risk.

I suggest that you object to a Hub 3 replacement.  It’ll happen again. They are refurbs and likely to be up to 8 years old (released 2016 iirc). It is disgraceful that VM keep these hubs in the field.

i don't understand why virgin media is keeping hub 3 that was released in 2016

maybe they don't care about the customers, 1 of the reasons i am leaving on 9 September, i am hoping that Vodafone's hub is better

also i avoid paying £25 to move the hub to a different room

Thanks for the info. I will defo take your advice. When I upgraded to TV360 from my Tivo & V6 boxes I asked if my Hub 3 could cope with the change over and the boosted speed and they said yes.Obviously NOT !

        Hi dcimwright,

Thank you for your post. We're sorry to hear about the red light on your hub,

We can certainly look into this. I will private message you now.

  • Solid red light here too. I have done a pinhole reset and a power off reset but the red light remains for 95% of the time.
