Packet Loss… Ants Possibly Ruined Coaxial Cable

I’m getting consistent packet loss that is intermittently losing connection on live services such as streaming services and games.

I’ve looked under the hatch were the coaxial cable comes to the house and it is over run by ants… I think they may have damaged the shielding on the cable leading to the packet loss I am now experiencing.

The packet loss may look minor but it is enough to loose connection and loose enjoyment in all media due to the unexpected constant random interrupts.

I suspect I will need an engineer to check the cable for possible damage.

get Continuous internet speed test which will do a UDP packet loss test at 1Mb up and down

    Continuous internet speed test tool

Also the problem might be peering and not between you and your first hop to the VM gateway

so for a high speed test to a close VM DNS server get

    https://www.cfos.de/en/ping/ping.htm

    run with

    hrping.exe -n 1000 194.168.4.100 -K -gg -T -s 10

even I get the odd packet loss every now and then but does depend on how bad it is or if VM are experimenting...here is my BQM for comparison

    The BQM look very decent.

Are you having a Wi-Fi coverage issues but reporting it as packet loss ?

No its the small amount of dropped packets at the top of the graph in red thats causing the issue… they always coincide when I loose connection briefly to a live service.

I use ethernet wired connection so its not the Wifi.

I am very sceptical of BQM because it is near useless given one can not distinguish where or why a packet was lost ... or was it just a few MS late ?
