Miserable latency, Sperodic packet loss, Post RS Errors, Pre RS Errors - HUB5 1gb service

So i've been experiancing poor latency maximum latency on BQM is generally 60+ consistantly, overall very strange gaming performance.

for some reason BQM hasn't logged anything since 21st? fully dropped for week+ but i've had internet, so unsure whats happened there

anyway I've tried several chats over live chat, who have said nothing is wrong and to try the usual reboot/rest - Yes all done prior to going onto chat

these are my hub5 network stats after around 1day uptime (rebooted over weekend)

I've seen my HUB 5 have pre errors, but never seen so many Post errors.. these numbers are pretty low vs what i saw before a reboot some were in thousands.

my PC is fully wired to the hub.

if any expert on these stats take a look and give some guidance it would be appreicated, as I'm honestly at my wits end with VM broadband, yes it has speed but my word gaming performance feels absolutely awful until my area has true FTTP i'm stuck with HFC or completely kill my overall speeds with another ISP.

  • I've had luck using a VPN to "fix" the latency issue.

While this is not a permanent solution to the problem, it may help you rule out a hardware fault.

its likely a routing problem and Docsis is fine

Note the hard errors on the 3.1 downstream channel.

I saw this as i was posting i didn't even notice these at first.

Was only looking at the post rs pre rs.

Does this suggest internal issue or external? And what's best course of action live chat haven't been helpful.

    for info :

3.0 Pre RS Errors     are much the same as : 3.1 Corrected errors (Active Profile)
3.0 Post RS Errors   are much the same as : 3.1 Uncorrectable errors (Active Profile)

These downstream errors suggest noise between the external VM network and the VM Hub.

The only steps we can take are to make sure the coax cables are all secure from the wall socket to all of our VM kit.    If the external cables are damaged or errors continue to rise it is a job for an engineer to resolve.

All cables within my home are fully secure, was checking this last night, not easily undone anyway

I'll check errors when I get home to see any changes and will try organise an engineer.

Hopefully won't get same one as last time when didn't really care much.

Can you see connection issues to the Hub in VM's own test :

    https://www.samknows.com/realspeed/

Once the test begins click on: Run full test
to include: Latency, Jitter, Packet loss & Upload speed

The same “Samknows Realspeed” tests are available as very handy
apps for iPhone/iPad and Android mobile / tablets.

Yes all test come back 'ok' not great, speeds are fine latency is hit and miss with the expection of samknows but I'm guessing that's using a perfect routing system.

expection is  waveform bufferbloat test which show really high latency during load like 300+ Ms spikes. Both on down and up.

And gaming seems really 'off' hard to explain  doesn't feel consistant like you'd expect

DOCIS is not best for gaming, it was originally designed for TV transmission.  Keep checking the DS PostRS errors, they should be zero or close to it.  If these keep building, there is an issue for VM to fix, could be noise ingress somewhere on your circuit.

They do keep rising i can bet you when i get home and login to my router they'll have risen.

At one point before router reset other day two channels had near 1k+ post rs errors

I had 0 post rs errors previously its only just started

Only posting here because live chat dont seem to be much help on this matter.

waveform bufferbloat test will be bad the upstream the hub 5 does a bit of QoS/BWM but not perfect downstream spikes a bit I did my my own QoS/BWN to improve this.

Gaming here seems fine with a hub 5

post your live BQM you may need to update your IP for it

so after coming home from work - no ones been in.

    suprised 3.0 Post RS/Pre RS haven't changed

    but 3.1 have gone worse

this is previous 24hrs ish, while it shows ok. i'm pretty confident something is off, due to seeing Uncorrectable Errors
