I'm actually getting 17ms i think this is way to high for fttp.
I was expecting sub 10ms, is this a routing issue as my first hop seems to be going north before coming back down or is this normal for virgin.
Do virgin have more direct routes to london from my area of south wales

Sure get someone to carf a direct line from Wales to London :)

Yes and I'll send the invoice to you.

Yeah that does sound quite slow, I'm near Reading and it's taking around 9-10ms for me, quickest way to measure is to ping google DNS, nearest node is in London I believe...

Thanks for this

How far north are you going? Unfortunately you connect to a Broadband Network Gateway and are probably 'hard wired' to go to the site you're currently at. There might be a better route to get you to the BNG but VM's internal routing isn't great on the whole as it follows the cable network rather than taking more direct paths.

Is the 2Gb tier not on Nexfibre XGS-PON? Maybe the routing is different.

https://lon-gb-ping.vultr.com/#tests
This is where i can test my latency and perform tracert, is it a lottery of which bng I connect to? Can I request?
In my mind I should be below 10ms any help will be appreciated

Is that website what you're basing your ping on? The website will run a ping/traceroute from their server to the IP entered. It is not reflective of your own connection.

In short no,
When i run the test from my end, my ping is 19ms, this site is a looking glass it is used to test that is the purpose.
My gateway is perry barr which I think is near or in birmingham, I'm in south wales I want to know can I get my traffic that is destined for London be more direct,
I'm going north then down to london and back north just to come back down. With all this new xgs pon stuff my expectation is much higher
