Is Hub 5x still an experimental device?

I know that Gig2 is a recent introduction to Virgin Media, but after a few weeks of use it still feels very much like some sort of beta Fisher Price router. Is this still in some sort of testing/experimental phase?

Pause function not available yet it's a basic Router 101 thing and you can do this in the web UI:

There's a label telling me that I can update device names on the Home page - clicking on them does absolutely nothing:

I've debugged the Home page and there's no references to what you can and can't do if you click on the device names.

There's no way to update firmware.

Modem mode is still not available?

    On our wavelength

5x was rushed out so Virginmedia could announce 2gig ASAP to keep ahead of Openreach.

    Customer problems don't matter.

there be no problem if they added modem mode

  • It's almost exactly the same as EE's 5G Smart Hub 2 - it's a basic stripped down version of something resembling a router, but the actual router functionality is garbage.

Fortunately I was able to put it into modem mode and tag on a half decent gigabit router until Virgin pulled their fingers out and put the cables in for fibre, and based on customer reviews of previous VM Hubs I was looking forward to getting to work with a provider-branded router that would allow me to configure it beyond the My First Internet basics. How sadly mistaken I have been.

Can't fault the fibre service, but the Hub itself needs binning and starting again.

Interesting, a Hub 5 x operating in Modem mode with a  gigabit router,
many would be very interested to read how that is achieved . . .

Ah my mistake, badly worded. My EE Smart Hub was connected to a gigabit router. It never achieved gigabit potential because EE capped out at about 500Mbps and the Smart Hub was never going to handle that speed, but it was a fairly cheap workaround whilst we waited for Virgin to sort the fibre.
