Internet lag spike every hour

Hi everyone,

Until recently I was using WiFi on my main PC and was getting the occasional really high lag spike whilst gaming, maybe 2 or 3 an hour. To save hassle I have no gone to wired. But, strange problem got stranger. I now get 1 lag spike per hour, it doesn’t disconnect me from the internet, but completely lags me out for anything up to 10 seconds. Here’s the strange part, it’s at 7 minutes past the hour, every hour. It’s always the same time. 12:07, 13:07 etc etc.

I am completely clueless as to what would be causing it. I hadn’t had any issues whilst on M250/350 where I was using WiFi. We then upgraded to M500 and that’s when the problems started. And they have now continued on 1 Gig and after I’m wired. It’s baffling me but also very very annoying.

Does anyone have any suggestions or even a way I can figure this out?

Thanks

  • Hello Mitchybenny.

Thanks for your post and welcome back to our community.

This is a very odd issue, especially at the same time each hour.

What I would like to do is take a look into this for you.

If you don't mind, I'll need to send you a private message to pass security.
If you can check the envelope at the top right of your screen, that would be great.

People will suggest setting up a bqm at http://www.thinkbroadband.com. also post hub stats. Are you using your own router and the hub in modem mode or just the virgin hub? Perhaps a pinhole reset of the hub would help but I am sure the virgun staff will tell you what they want you to do to go through their resolution path.
