Huge Latency Spikes Every Few Seconds

Hello, since September I have had an issue of huge latency/ping spikes every few seconds. My internet speed is just fine, but these spikes in ping make it borderline impossible to play online games.

This occurs on all devices, regardless of whether they're using WiFi or Ethernet, these spikes do not appear when pinging my default gateway (they are not related to any devices' connection to the router itself). No engineers I have had out have managed to fix the issue. I have been looking over the internet for a solution for a while now and haven't found one. I am not sure what else to do at this point.

  • Hey Alex1605, thank you for reaching out and we are so sorry to hear you are having some connection issues, also a warm welcome to the community.

To confirm are you only having issues when you are playing online?

What are playing online, for example what consoles?

Is the console plugged into a cable and using WIFI also?

  • I'm using a PC with ethernet (tried with wifi too), the problem persists on any device though.

I am consistently getting massive amounts of packet loss on my router, and am also getting T3 errors on the upstream channels.

      Hi Alex1605,

Thanks for coming back to us on this one.

We've not been able to locate your account using your forum credentials, in order to run the usual remote checks. Can you please have a look here? It will first check if there's a fault in the area. If so, it will advise the details, including an estimated fix time. If there is no area fault, it will allow you to click a 'still having issues' button. Do this to go through some diagnostics to test your line. If the checks pick up anything wrong, you'll be able to replace your equipment or book an engineer visit if it's needed.

Let us know if you need further help or support.

      Many thanks,

I had an engineer out a few days ago, he agreed that there was a problem on the upstream channels. He replaced the router and did some other things, though nothing fixed the issue. He said that another team would be out to look at the area's network in a few days, because it is almost certainly an issue with Virgin Media in my area - though it is now Friday night three days later and the internet is still very poor in quality. This problem has persisted since early September now, and it's difficult to see it being fixed anytime soon. I might just have to switch providers, unfortunately.
