Hub5x Ethernet ports not working

Hello,

I’ve just had the Hub 5x installed, and it’s up and running and I can connect Wi-Fi just fine.
I’ve plugged my Xbox Series X console from the router using a Cat 6 Ethernet cable, yet it’s not registering the wired connection.

The cables have been tested and they work.

Why is it not registering the wired connection? And what can I do to resolve this?

I don't have an Xbox, but do you have to select use of the Xbox Ethernet socket.

Do you have any manual entered DNS or proxy settings that belong to a previous ISP like BT or Sky etc, such servers would not be available via a VM connection.

Are you using a 1GB/s port for the Xbox ?
The 10Gb/s port may not be the ideal choice.

Is there any possibility some kind soul has
blocked the MAC Address of the Xbox on the Hub 5x ?

So yes the Xbox has a dedicated Ethernet input, however no selection of that input is required.
I’ve reset all network data stored from any old providers.
I’m using one of the yellow INT ports, that I would presume is the 1GB/s port.
I’ve checked the MAC address filter list and everything is as it should be.

I can connect wirelessly, however usually when an Ethernet cable is plugged in, it just connects and works, which isn’t happening this time.

Is the problem you still have a valid Wi-Fi connection ?

No, I’ve removed the WiFi network from the console to see if that was overriding but no success. Still not recognising the wired connection

Does the Hub 5x and / or the Xbox have LEDs on the network ports
to show if a connection is being made and traffic is being exchanged ?

Does the Hub 5x admin menu have a display of Connected devices that shows what MAC and IP have been allocated by its DHCP server ?    Is there an IP allocated to the Xbox ?

    Usually these issues are :

MAC or Wi-Fi Filtering has be put in place the the Hub menu needs to be searched for this  .... i.e. not the unreliable Connect app.

Conflicting  manual settings of the DNS / gateway / IP of the device i.e. xbox.

Failure to negotiate a speed i.e. the two devices just do not work with each other and this can need a basic 10/100/1000 network switch as a go between.  This has been a problem of the Hub 5, I've yet to read about in in the Hub 5x.  With the 1 exception of 10Mb/s only heating controllers.

      Thanks for your assistance.

It appears that the wired connection now works, but appears limited in internet speeds not passing 100Mbps, which is slower than when it’s wireless. So I suspect there’s a failure to negotiate speed.
Could you explain this network switch as a go between please?

So you have tested the ports work on the hub with a PC?

There can be another issue a damaged or faulty network socket
or defective cable with loose contacts causing intermittent connectivity.

A 100 Mb/s uses only 4 wires of a network cable, a 1Gb/s needs all 8, a defective connection can cause the speed to become 100Mb/s.

So first check the plugs of you network cable - does it have 8 cores connected,
as above do confirm a laptop connect at 1Gbps with the cable you with to use, this is key test.

Next look at the sockets on the Hub and especially on the Xbox,
you should see 8 contacts that are all clean and undamaged.

The network switch has been used only when the VM Hub and the customers device are failing to agree on any speeds, or don't have matching speeds to use.  Such as a 10Mb/s only heating devices on a Hub that has a 100/1000 sockets, this needs a switch as a go between.

The switch is basic 5 or 8 port 10/100/1000 type of device connected  Hub >>> Switch >>> XBOX.

I’ve tested the wired connection with another device and cable and I’m getting much faster speeds. The cable which was running through originally appears to be slightly defective, so I’ll need to look to fix it, as it’s in the wall and can’t be replaced.

      Thanks for your assistance.

Always the cable in the wall....
