Downgrading from Hub5x to Hub5

Hi,
I had 1 gig virgin fibre installed using the Hub5x and everything works great, or so i thought. The problem is that i want to use my own Asus router and unlike the Hub 3,4,5 there is no Modem Mode on the Hub5x. I spoke to support and they said we can swap it no worries, when i spoke to the person support told me i needed to speak to and they said no problem an engineer can call next week and upgrade the router to a 5x from a hub5... after explaining yet again i wanted to go from a 5x to a 5 an actual downgrade and would need an engineer to change the fibre connection to a coaxial one i was told that she couldn't do that and a manager would call me in the next 2 days. As the installation was yesterday the 16th i am in 2 minds to just cancel and go elsewhere or wait and see if i can get a hub 5.
Has anyone else changed from the Hub5x to a Hub5 or could recommend a company whos Hub you can pass through.
Thanks
Steve

You need the Hub 5x for a XGS-PON connection.

  • hub5 wouldn't work with your internet, it's a different technology, just turn off wifi/DCHP and keep the VM as a ONT.

THere are ways to bypass the hub, but it's not cheap, £100+ adaptor + a router with sfp etc etc

You cannot bypass the Hub5x, you cannot just plug the fibre into a router with an SPF slot.

Definitely can. Obviously can't just plug the fibre into a router with an SFP cage, do need an SFP.

Being in a XGS-PON (FTTP) area yes.

  • I have just had a look at a firm called IDNET which i can get as i am in an openreach area. They get great reviews and you can either use your own router or they provide one which is wither TP link or a few different ASUS ones depening on what package you buy. The Gigabit Fibre is 24m contract for £47.50. Also a couple of other things  Unlimited Usage, Flexible contracts, No mid contract price rises, Excellent UK support, Static IPv4 & IPv6 addresses.

    What do you guys think?

If you need access to your local network remotely it's a no brainer really.
