How to disconnect connected devices & DCHP modifications

Hi,

I am becoming increasingly frustrated with Virgin Media at the moment where I want to throw it out the Window:-

It started when I wanted to change the DNS servers on my router to Cloudfare via my laptop. I signed onto my HUB 5 went to Advanced Settings, then to DHCP Settings, DHCPv4 server... but I cannot find DNS servers? However, the display also showed several devices connected to my HUB 5 which I didn't recognise - and one which was my neighbour's Ring Doorbell ao !!! How do I disconnect these?????

I did a search which suggested I could do this easily via the the Virgin Media Connect App - which I downloaded onto my 02 phone. However, this too failed to work even when I placed it next to the modem - it just kept telling me that "It looks you're out". So I rebooted my phone - but still no luck.

So two questions:-

  1. What is the quickest and easiest way to modify my DNS settings - preferably via my laptop?
  2. How do I disconnect connected devices which I do not recognise?  Many Thanks

VM like defaults they would not like anything else changing your DNS should you have problem with other DNS then there own you are free to change the DNS per device on your device.

You can also choose to put the hub in modem mode and get your own router that can change DNS if you wish.

The Virgin Media Connect App does not work correctly....and will one day EOL

one which was my neighbour's Ring Doorbell

The only way this is possible is you have shared the Wi-Fi Password with the neighbour.

Don't be tempted to block access to every device that is 'unknown' this will soon turn out to be a critical item that is yours like the heating controller or a Sky Q or a work VPN, even your own mobile or your CCTV etc.

    Public DNS

If you with to use Cloudflare DNS set that on the laptop or in the browser, but be aware this may affect your ability to connect when on say an office network or public hotspot where use of their DNS is mandated.

    VM DNS

If you are just working round VM DNS blocking VPNs etc, Disable Parental Controls in the VM Online a/c and VPNs / Social Media / Teleconf / TV streaming will all work fine.
