It does update in modem mode, there just haven't been any recent updates.

You cannot update the VM hubs yourself, the updates are totally in control of VM.

Hi Andybeech1993 👋.
Thanks for reaching out to us with your query. Any updates that the Hub 5 may require we will send out directly to the Hub when deployed. Depending on your setup with having our Hub in modem mode can prevent the Hub from receiving the update and not performing the way it should be and affect your service.
If you are having issues with your service where you feel the need to connect a third party Hub to our equipment, we would advise for maximum performance and ensuring that all updates are received and we can maintain and monitor the Hub and its health please revert to router mode and use the third party Hub as an extension of the Virgin Media network name rather than the Network name on the third party Hub.
We hope this helps.- legacy1Alessandro Volta
updates on docsis hubs are done over 10. IP of the modem address and updates in modem mode

This is the VM party/fear line. I have NEVER run any of my VM hubs in standard router always in modem mode and have never ever had any problems with them failing to update.

Do you switch your hub off overnight? If so, don't do it.
