Backup Router config?

Hi all,

Virging are sending me a new Hub4 router, as my 2.4GHz band is going don all the time, so kudos to them for that.
I have a multitude of smart devices connected to it and do not want to reconfigure all of them, so my plan was to back up the config and restore to the new router.
That way I keep the SSID, passwords etc.

However when I press the backup button I get an empty page except for a single 0 from

http://192.168.0.1/php/trigger_download.php/?HTTP_CSRF_NONCE=42b27e727d6d22fc86c3c66c1937b12c

So has anyone succesfully backed up a Hub 4 router to an actual file?

  • AFAIK that function does not work across Hubs.  It should work on the same Hub, but I've never used it.

You can set the SSID and passwords on the new Hub to be the same as the old Hub.  This will at least get the devices connected.

As @Adduxi said. Just copy the SSIDs and passwords and set the new Hub the same. You'll need to do it with an ethernet connected device.

  • Ok, thanks. I will take screen dumps of each page. :-(

Wonder why they have the Export and Import options if they cannot be used? :-(

  • I thought things were going too well. :-)
Router arrived today, which to be fair was very quick.
Swapped it over and entered all my old settings again. Devices connected, but no internet.???
I then get a text saying 'Sorry, there was a problem activating your router' Please use this link for help?

How on earth are you meant to use a link, when you have no internet??
I called them on 150. Whilst I have a small data plan on my phone, I did not want to go through that rigmarole on a small screen.
Turns out that the router serial number was never added? :-(

That does happen. The Hub is supposed to be pre activated but it’s not always done.  A call to the activation line usually sorts it out.
