AOEM Adaptor

Hi

Ive had an AOEM AC Adaptor fitted for past 15 years, never really questioned why? - If anyone can help - I,m looking to move it from the back room of the house to a place close to Router - is this acceptable or does it have to be at the furthest away point from the Router

What is the AC adapter powering? What is it connected to?

Power adapters which are linked to the coax cable can provide power to devices such as active splitters and media converters.

    Photos would help.

  • Thats a photo of the adaptor - it seems to tie in with the main virgin cable into the house?

I'm not at all convinced that you still need this AOEM as the cable plant may well have been upgraded in the past 15 years and in 2022 there was the upgrade to DOCSIS 3.1. If you have a problem with its location call VM to get a tech round to check signal levels and relocate it if necessary or remove it.

Thanks Roger - Is there a way of contacting a VM engineer via this site to arrange a visit? - or is there a contact number ?

VM should reply but the forum is closing next week to migrate and merge with the O2 forum so any comm's on here will be interrupted by that

    Try a basic test.

Does anything stop working if the PSU is turned off ?

Tv and internet is lost when turned off - even if I have to keep it I’m wondering if I can relocate it from present position and if it would still work the same - it’s not an easy job re wooden floor and depth underneath floor or I’d simply try it

      thx

The HDU replaced the AOEM. In installations where it is present, it forms the final active stage of the in-home RF path. A power loss or fault provides no passive bypass, resulting in total loss of both DOCSIS broadband and TV services. A knowledgeable user could temporarily swap it for a passive splitter (e.g. from Screwfix) to restore service (which might be degraded but better than nothing), but most people wouldn’t know this — and VM would still need to attend to rebalance levels properly.
