Android devices connected with no internet

Looking for some help/advice on the following please!

From this morning, all our Android devices (phones & tablets) have lost internet connection. They are connected to the WiFi but with no internet. It seems all other non-Android devices in the house are connected with no issues (have been working on a work laptop with no problem and Alexa/Sonos/Hive and personal PC all connect OK with internet access).

I know it's not the Android device as have used a hotspot to connect to the internet.

Have restarted router and done a factory reset & also restarted the Android devices (and forgotten/reconnected to the WiFi. Still same Connected with no internet message. Not sure what else to try - VM Connect wont work as on Android device!

  • Same problem here gsb1980. All smart devices, laptop, desktop etc working normally - 2 Android mobiles connected but no internet. Messaged Virgin - but just get the usual platitudes with no acknowledgment there is a problem.

    On our wavelength

This is the same issue as the other recent threads on here (google services and VM not playing ball together)

100% an issue on VM’s end that they’re supposedly working on (chat and phone reps seem to know nothing about it though)

Bad firmware may take years to fix or you can go and get your own wifi router with 1Gb ports and put hub in modem mode.

Do these Android devices have Private DNS set to dns.google ?
If yes, try with that disabled to use the VM DNS.

  • Try setting DNS manually to 8.8.8.8 (Google) and see if that resolves (Under Settings/Wi-FI).

  • Hi gsb1980 👋 Thank you for your post and welcome to the Virgin Media Community 😀

We're sorry to hear about the problem you've been having 😔

How have things been since you posted?

If you're still no further forward, have you tried following the advice provided by Client62 and carl_pearce?

We were aware of an issue for some customers accessing Amazon Web Services hosted sites last week, but this has now been resolved.

    Regards,
    Daniel

  • I’ve had this issue since I joined CM back in 2022. No one else seemed to have it and virgin had no idea. Changed and upgraded my router etc with no change. Only affects android devices - I have iPhones which work fine, windows pcs, Alexa’s, smart tvs etc and all fine but anything android (phones, tablets etc) whether mine or visitors all have this issue.
The only fix ive found is to set a fixed IP on my router for the devices and to turn off the randomised Mac ID on the devices themselves. Even then it can take a few tries to work and every time a visitor comes again I seem to have to go through some of the steps again and try a few times before it works. Connecting to an access point or booster usually works better and quicker than the virgin router but still needs the above steps!

It’s so ridiculous, but in my location there are very few other options! Just stay away from Android in this case.
