Virgin TV Control Android app keeps prompting me to upgrade to a 360

Every time I open the Virgin TV Control app on my Android phone, it prompts me that my 'TV Box needs a free upgrade' to a 360 box. Even though I click OK to dismiss it, the prompt comes back next time I open the app.

I did look into switching from our current V6 to Virgin's newer 360 firmware a few years ago when it first came out (I'm usually an early adopter of this sort of thing) but there seemed to be so many compromises and missing functionality that I regarded it as more of a downgrade with a pretty graphical front-end. Which unless things have changed dramatically since, then I still do - it seemed a classic case of form over function.

Anyway, how do I prevent this app nag screen from appearing, as I don't plan to switch to a 360?

Oh, and by the way, how can I find my old posts in this community? My profile shows 573 posts over the past 14 years I've been here, but I can only find the most recent year or so, and I wanted to check back on the 360 discussions that I had a few years back to see if anything much has changed. Thanks.

Andre

I don't think there is a way to stop the nag screen appearing in the control app.

As for historic posts they get archived away from public view.  If they don't show in your profile then they can't be accessed, (except by the moderators I assume).

  • That's annoying, when you dismiss such a prompt as unwanted, it should stay dismissed. :(

And as for not being able to access old messages in a SUPPORT forum, it does make me wonder what planet Virgin live on? A lot of older questions still have relevance when a new user comes across a similar issue - after all, that's what the Search function is for. I administer an Android app support forum (50+ million app users, over 15+ years) and we keep everything archived, even moved over from older versions of the forum software (although when a thread has been dormant for more than three years, commenting is turned off).

It's not in their interests to let you turn off the prompts. It saves them money in licence fees when customers change to 360, so they will keep nagging. As for previous discussions on the change, there are many threads by other users.

  • Hi,

Thanks for your post and welcome back to our community.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused, however we don't believe the pop up can be removed. This will appear if you're eligible for a free upgrade. Please dismiss this if you're not interested in the upgrade.

As the community have advised, any older posts will be archived.

If you have any further questions, please pop back to us here and we'd be happy to help.

I do dismiss this "offer", but it still come back every time I re-open the app. I'm also getting text messages and emails from Virgin offering the same downgrade to a 360. Please stop. I am not interested in streaming, nor suggestions, nor family profiles, or voice commands or an overly graphical interface - so why should I want a 360, which doesn't even have something as basic as an undelete facility?

As to older forum posts being archived, an archive is pointless unless it can be accessed when needed. I've tried using the (GDPR mandated) option to download all of the content that's held about or by me by Virgin Media, but I only get my 8 most recent forum comments (out of 576) and quite a lot of DMs. How do I retrieve my archived question about the 360, so I can check to see what omissions I raised at the time have been addressed since I last checked?

  • Andre , i couldnt agree more with you! , the 360box is a far inferior  software streaming box, as apposed to the superior V6 RECORDING 6 TUNERS box , i too got the v6 box so i could control, what i record to watch at antime i want, if the internet goes down, the 360box is a dumb brick!.
if virgin remove programs off stream they gone , not if i recorded them on my V6 box i have them till i delete ( and if error by me i can recover them back too). fast playback with sound, live pause for 60mins+ on 6 tuners, for channel hopping sports etc, or the mrs soaps(weird i know). plus many other usefull functions, removed for the HORIZON software(any relation to post office software?)on the useless mainly streaming 360box. and as i just rememberd also the Android TV control app, also allows me to throw my recordings from my box through my mobile to any tv in the house! very usefull tool .  NOT Available on the 360box.

If I remember correctly, VM changed forum providers around 5 years ago.  I think about 12 months of archive from active users was transferred, but the rest was discarded.
