Virgin TV360

Hello!

We recently upgraded our V6 TiVo to the new 360 software. Relatively impressed with it, but have an annoying issue.

At night, we turn our TV off & place the box into standby (red light). In the morning, there is no light on the box at all. When switching on the box either via the remote or the button on the box, usually it all springs to life & the box works normally - but there is no white light. Only switching the box off from the mains then back on cures this. Surely, when switching on the light should return?

I've checked the settings and changed standby timer to 24 hours, but this still happens.

Any suggestions?

To be honest I wouldn't worry too much if you don't see any lights on the 360. Generally the only light(s) some people see on the 360 are flashing lights to the left of the standby button when the internet connection has been lost - see picture at the bottom.

I did have a previous 360 box that was swapped out as it eventually failed (it was originally a V6 box and around 8 or 9 years old).  To begin with this box showed a red light when it was in standby mode which is the normally expected behaviour.  However, after a while it showed no light at all  when it was working normally and not in standby (but should have been white).

I currently have two main 360 boxes, they were migrated from V6 boxes.  I have both of them set as follows:-

One Power > On (so I can the TV and 360 box on and off at the same time (You need HDMI-CEC or it's equivalent such as Simplink on LG TV's turning on for this to work)

    Standby Timer > 24 hours

Standby Power Consumption > Fast Start - There's actually 3 options:-

Fast start  - the 360 starts quickly but is less energy efficient
Active start - more energy efficient than fast start but the box takes a little longer to start up
Eco start - the most energy efficient and probably the one you're using. It uses minimal power but takes a while to start.
The first two options are best if you have a mini box and want to watch a recording on it

One of my boxes shows a permanent white light which means everything is working normally, although with some boxes this can show as a yellowish colour due to the LCD aging..

The other one shows an orange light which normally can either mean it's just starting up or there is a possible fault - there's actually nothing wrong with this box, it isn't just starting up, it's probably due to the fact that it was previously working as a V6 box so it's quite old and the LCD is fading hence the color change to orange instead of white.

I know it's not the end of the world - it's only a light after all, my question is to WHY it does it. Is it a bug in the new software? Is it a sign of impending doom??

We seldom record programmes that are on overnight, but if we did & the box had gone into some kind of deep-sleep, would the recording fail?

It's just an annoyance. No other box has behaved that way, and as a long term customer of UA/Telewest/VM, I've had many boxes!

I was hoping for a definitive answer.

Try changing power settings to active start to see if it helps.
