Virgin 360 box - channels and recordings

I have just had a 360 box installed and spent almost the entire day playing with it.  Please, is there any way of putting all your favourite channels together, instead of having to scroll the whole way through ALL of them (some of which I'm not entitled to watch anyway! )  I have yet to see if I have managed to properly record anything.  Also, I'd like to know how can it record if there is no hard drive?  I was not aware of this until I read of it on here!  Frankly I wish I had asked for a new V6 box.  At least that was much easier to use!  The 360 doesn't even show ALL of the channels; BBC for instance.  You have to put the numbers in!  The only reason I wanted a replacement was because of the many problems I had started having with my V6 Box.  I find that recording on the new box is very complicated!  I'm having to go back to where I started in order to get it right!  I used to be able to bookmark whole series on my V6 box, then watch them at  MY convenience.  Whereas with the new one I can't do this.  I have to binge watch a series or make sure I can remember which one I got to!  Please advise if you can - anyone?  I really don't want to experience the horrors of Virgin's so-called 'Customer Services' again!  😣

You should be able to record on a V360. It does have a hard disk. Diskless boxes are only provided for multiroom installs. In the picture below the one on the left has the hard disk, the one on the right does not.

You can set up favourite channels by creating a profile. Moving to V360 is currently voluntary, & you have to bear in mind it is a completely different firmware platform to TiVO that ran the V6. This had a lot of patented features that cannot be duplicated.

  • You can set up different profiles to save your favourite channels to by pressing the profile button on the right side of the remote.

The 360 TV guide does show all the channels but when you press the TV guide button it always opens with the channel you are watching, if you are watching for example BBC news channel 601 pressing the TV guide and then either pressing the '1' key or using voice control and saying "top" will take you to the top of the TV guide.

  • Thank you for your reply Nodrogd.  I have only just been informed of it!  I was wondering why no one had answered.  I have managed to suss out most of the box's features now, but as I said before, it is nowhere near as easy to use as the V6!  How do I know how much space I have used for my recordings?  There doesn't seem to be any indication of this at all!  When I am going through my preferred channels looking to record stuff, There is no indication that a series has already been set up.  I can't often remember just what I have recorded. I find I am having to go backwards and forwards checking on recordings, whereas before they were all in one place and were informative about series numbers; one series would automatically lead on to the next, etc.  No indication of that with the 360 box at all!  I find that whole series numbers are missed out.  The V60 would have ALL series of a drama available; either for streaming or recording.  This one will only let you see what they have available!  Often missing some of the series numbers as I said.  Honestly, I feel cheated!

Thanks Daniel.  I've now managed to find out a lot of what I wanted to know by Googling it!  I understand that there is 1 kilobyte of space on the box for recording?  Is this more or less  than the V6 box; I can't remember now?  Also I have always preferred to set up my preferred channels as the '+' versions rather than the HD versions simply because these take up far less space for recordings than HD, which really hogs space.  I have had to scroll all the whole length of the list of available channels to find these though!  Also I do miss just using the 'backspace' key to go back; rather than having to find the other 'goback' key every single time!  Everything seems so long-winded on this remote compared with the one for the V6 box.  I really liked that one.  My neighbour wouldn't swap his V6 box for a 360 if you paid him!  You can't just assume that the latest version of something is always the best, because it simply isn't!   😣

Oh by the way, for some reason, I was sent another 360 remote through the post.  It looks to be exactly the same as the 360 remote the engineer left with me.  Can I assume that if anything were to happen to my existing remote, the 'new' one would just simply continue to work with the box, like the old one?

        Thank you for your patience.
