V6 Box not recording - seems common

We had a V6 box as part of an upgrade from a TIVO about a month ago. It started by recording our requests well but this has appeared to stop now with no recent shows, that were working, being recorded at all. They sit on the list with an "exclamation mark" in red next to them. No other reasoning as to why they are not recorded. I also noticed that there was a note in one location saying that storage was full - which is not possible. On other forums I have heard that resetting back to default and reformatting at the same time has solved the problem, however this seems quite extreme and as we have everything else set up and working it would be annoying to have to go through the whole process again. The help has, unfortunately, always been the poorest part of Virginmedia and remains so (what is a chatbot? whatever it is it doesn't work).

I will answer based on you having a V6 running TiVo-software, as that's the section of the forum you've posted in. Missed recordings don't have exclamation marks in the "My shows", but the reason for failure is listed under Home > My shows > Recording Hiccups.

However, I suspect you don't have a V6 (running TiVo-software) but have been converted to a TV360 (running Horizon-firmware) which is fundamentally not a TiVo or V6. V6 have the TiVo-logo in the top-right corner of the menu next to the video preview. TV360 don't have this.

There's photos of the boxes, with their remotes, on https://www.virginmedia.com/care/tv-fault/which-tv-box

  • Thanks for the response. You make a good point re the box type (well the remote in particular) it does appear to be a TV 360 box

Nice. I've moved your post to the TV360 section, and defer judgment to others who use that box.

I would suspect a hard drive issue though, based on your description.

  • You don't need to reformat the hard drive when doing a factory reset, you are given 2 options, Keep Recordings and Format Disk, just choose the Keep Recordings option.

Before you do that you can check how full the hard drive is by going to Recordings, Recorded and you will a % number in the top left, if it does say 100% try deleting something old that you have already watched to see if it makes any difference.

If it's not showing 100% or very high 90 something % try pausing and rewinding some live TV which will simulate a recording.

Are the shows that haven't recorded series links, if they are try using the advanced options and select From this episode onwards, I had a series link that suddenly stopped working after the V5.16 update that was set using the New Only option, resetting it with the From this episode onwards cured that problem.

Thanks for the advice. I looked at the storage and there is no number given, just a light grey bar with the word "storage is full" next to it. Looking at recordings themselves I only have four things shown on the list.

I notice that there is a little exclamation mark in a red circle next to the recordings that haven't worked. I am guessing that means something. I will try the series link suggestion in the future.

Also tried the live pause and it doesn't work. Comes up with CS2000 fault. I believe that is a hard drive problem so I'm guessing it is try a factory reset and, if that doesn't work, then a call for a new box.
