TivVo is a large distance from Hub

My TiVo and Hub are approximately 40m apart (large long house). I have a fibre cable to the Hub but a coaxial cable to the TiVo. Is it possible for me to have a new 360 box to replace the TiVo?

Be very careful what you need, and what you're asking for. TV360 is a completely different TV software platform to TiVo/V6, with many substantial differences.

First off, which box do you have now - TiVo or V6? https://www.virginmedia.com/care/tv-fault/which-tv-box

All TiVo, V6 & TV360 use a co-ax cable feed for live TV channels, but differ in their internet connectivity. TiVo's have an in-built connection via the co-ax, whereas V6 & TV360 use your home-hub to provide this. Ethernet is always recommended, but wireless can suffice.

V6 & TV360 use the exact same hardware, but TiVo (V6) & Horizon (TV360) software is substantially different - in either case, the connectivity requirements are identical.

  • Many thanks. The box is definitely a TiVo box with a co-ax cable and I had picked up the differences between that and the v6 and 360 boxes. The only way to reliably connect a 360 box to the hub is with a network cable as the wifi signal isn’t strong enough. Is it possible for VM to install a 360 box in these circumstances?

Anything on "your" side of the VM hub is your responsibility & not Virgin's, so you will have to source these yourself. If you want a wired connection to your hub there are two options:

      1) A long Ethernet cable.

      2) Powerline devices, which use your ring main power wiring to carry the signal. These work best if the hub & TV box are on the same ring main, & most not be plugged into power strips but directly into a ring main socket. There are plenty of passthrough types available that avoid you losing a socket outlet.

      Hi peterts,

Thanks for taking the time to contact us via the Community. It's lovely having you on board with us in the Forums.

We're not able to do package changes via the Community however you can discuss upgrading to a V6 or 360 service with the team on 150 / 0345 454 1111. If your hub is not located close to where you want the TV box then they can arrange an engineer visit over a quickstart pack which will allow the engineer to move the hub too.

Keep us posted on how things go.

      Thanks,

The 360 is just a swap for the TiVo but, as advised, you need a network connection to the 360. Wired is always best so get an Ethernet cable installed before the 360 is installed. It's worthwhile to get an electrician to drill through a wall or two if you can't do it.
