Recordings Buffering on Playback

Hi - I have a Virgin Mega package…350MB broadband, 1 main Tv360 box and 2 Tv360 slaves. Within the property I have a mesh wifi network which is optimized regularly.

My understanding is that all recordings are stored on the main box and streamed to the other boxes over wifi.

When streaming recordings to either of the slave boxes I continually get buffering issues with a message to check my network settings. However, when I stream the recordings to my mobile phone, they play without an issue.

Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks

Run an Ethernet cable to one of the 360 minis and you will quite likely find it works well.

I have no doubt it would, however the in this day and age I had hoped that wifi would work too. Given I can sit in front of either on the mini boxes and stream recordings perfectly on my phone, to it too much to expect that the kit supplied by Virgin would be able to do likewise?

EDIT: I have now connected one of the mini boxes via an ethernet cable and configured it to use that rather than wifi.

Problem remains. Still getting “buffering” or “network too busy” messages.

Perhaps the issue is with the main TV360 box

Okay how is the main 360 connected? Is it connected to the same switch/hub as the 360 slave you are testing?  It your main 360 a new box or a converted V6?

  • As you have a mesh wi-fi network the first question is have the mini boxes ever worked with the mesh system without buffering or are they the new stream / flex boxes without a coax cable. As you don't say live TV is affected they are probably the mini boxes.

The mini boxes are connected to Virgin by a coax so live TV is fine. The mesh network was installed prior to the mini boxes.  I don't recall problems streaming recordings in the past.

I either get a “buffering” message or one that says my network is too busy - even though I am in the house alone and nothing else is particularly active.

I have set the mini box up as high priority on the network but that doesn't seem to make a difference

How is the Mesh configured?  Does Master 360 connect to the Mesh via Ethernet? Are the Mesh nodes wired back to the main Mesh unit?  As an option, consider Powerline adapters at each 360 slave.  Also check the 360 slaves are using 2.4Ghz band as its best for distance, albeit slower than 5Ghz band.

Which band and signal strength is your mobile phone using when streaming to your mobile phone in the same location as the mini boxes?
