oap neghbours having real issues

O.A.P Neighbour having real problem

has 360 box thats stuck on welcome page on start

but his bedroom box running at moment

i have

tried the usual

reeboot

took all cables out and left then hour later connected up again

had to swap sitting room box with bedroom box so he has at least something to watch

left main 360 box turned on and connected overnight in case its an update issue

tried the power and plus button method

nothing working and with being secondary box(bedroom box) bring its own issues no recording cant access recording etc etc

and sounds like hard drive going or gone

i help them as much as i can but this is baffling me and i build pc.s etc

he needs help asap and calling 150 waste of time he cant get past AI BOT

got to admit i told him if he cant get it sorted or i cant for him to stop dd vm will then contact him

i have all his details etc as i do most tech things for him

    I wouldn't bet on that! VM's credit process is notoriously efficient, but they don't make outbound calls to ask if there's a problem. Your advice here, is bad.

    Leave a day or so, and VM staff should respond on here.

      yes i know

      i renewed ( like an idiot ) in may ish

      took till december to sort  things out as they had to send new box

      engineer came out ( told if not their prob i have to pay for this)

      HE WENT THROUGH 4 NEW BOXES BEFORE REALISING IT WAS THEIR SERVERS / SIGNAL /THAT WAS WRONG

      JUST BEEN IN NEIGHBOURS AGAIN TRY FEW TRICKS I HEARD ABOUT BUT STICLL BROKE

      if it was a pc i would say hard drive can hear it clicking trying to boot up but then freezes

      these 360 boxes are known for probs but vm think cheaper to fix when complain than do complete fix

      i myself having had probs would say new box needed( not another refurb one as you tried with me )

      and now its knackered )

      plus i have had calls to ask if mine all ok

      but soon as you say no theres a probs BOOM

      oh ok someone will call you later phone dead

      no one calls lol

    When phoning choose the option to report a fault, then ignore all the options offered and hopefully you should then be placed into a queue to speak to someone.

    The other option is to wait for one of the forum team to respond which might be 2 to 3 as previously advised.

    Hi tcoftopcats 

    You mentioned that you've tried the power and plus button method.

    There is another method, very similar which may work

    Turn off the 360 at the switch on the back of the box;  then on the 360 box  hold down both the power button and the - (minus) button at the same time. Then turn on the 360 again whilst keeping hold of those buttons for a further 30 seconds.

    There is also the 'three fingered salute'

    Turn off the 360 at the switch on the back of the box;  then on the 360 box  hold down the power button and the + (plus) and - (minus) buttons at the same time.  Then keeping all three buttons pressed down you should switch the box back on using the switch on the back of the box. 

    You may see an animated down arrow (this usually appears when the box is updating). When it restarts the first time you might see an error saying it can't acquire the channels. Press OK and let it restart again.

      yeh tried all them

      once got dl little screen then just stopped /froze

      the hard drive clicking etc etc any time heard that before is hard drive dead dying

      but the thing is 1nd box (mini box) working ok in the main room

      with limitations of course

      so the problem is the box not signal

      OAP is 76 and in poor health

      so i do tech stuff for him

      he needs a new 360 box

      and not one that broke refurbed then resent to someone else

      he is to old and the tv and recordings are his lifeline

      thanks for advice though

        Welcome back to the Community Forums. 

        Sorry to hear that your neighbour has an issue with their set-top box. 

        Have you or they run the checks and troubleshooting through the steps here - If there is an issue detached after running the checks at the home, there may be the option to book an engineer online through the online account. 

        Keep us posted with how you get on with those and we'll look to assist further should you still need.
