issue recording multiple programs with same name

We had issues with our old tivo and have been given a new 360 box.   We know how to add series links and that is fine.  But there are programs on the hobby make channel which are not series linked.  When we try to set a recording for each program it will replace the other one with the same name.  We need to be able to set the recordings for the week ,but currently can only set 1 program to record at a time. What is confusing is the guide shows that all the programs are set to record.  Is there a fix or is this a known issue and i need to tell Virgin I need the Tivo back.

Sorry to hear of the issues being experienced with the recording of new programmes from the Hobby Make Channel.

Is setting up a series link for this programme possible at all? If not, what happens when you try to set this up?

Can you please confirm if the set top box is currently set on "Fast Start" or "Active Start" rather than in "Eco Start Mode"?

In terms of switching back to Tivo, we would need to advise that sadly once migration has taken place, this cannot be reversed.

    Thanks,

The 360 relies entirely on certain IDs in each programme's metadata to distinguish one programme from another. Unfortunately small or niche channels like HobbyMaker often reuse the same title for every show, like “Crafter’s Companion” with no episode identifiers or fail to series-link them, and the 360 cannot identify the shows separately for recordings. Unfortunately the 360, unlike the TiVo and V6, does not provide the workaround of manually setting recordings. The solution is to fix the metadata and VM should ask these channels to do so, but it's questionable whether HobbyMaker or any of the others will do this.

Looking through the TiVO guide on the V6, there is no option to set a series link on any of Hobby Maker channels programmes. There is only a "first broadcast date" & no episode markers. The same goes for the Freeview channel. Looking at the schedule on the Hobby Channel website, there are also no visible episode numbers, so I assume they are only catalogued by transmission date.

I think on the V6\TiVo, you could have accomplished this with a Wishlist based on the program title, but that is a feature that is not available on the 360 as it's a TiVo patent.

Are the programs on at specific times, possibly a manual recording for that time each day? Though I'm not sure that the 360 supports that either.

Nope, TV360 doesn't offer manual recording.

The specific program does not have a series link.  The issue is that if you set one instance of the program to record you can not then record another instance until you delete the first one.  The startup setting makes no difference as I had it on fast start and then reduced to active.

I think @Roger_Gooner has the justification as to why this is happening and i agree with his assessment on the basis of my own investigation.

This does not change the fact that I pay virgin for a service and that service was all the features the TIVO gave me eg manual record, playback 1.5 x speed, ability to record multiple individual programs, ability to watch a recording and when i stop rewind the channel to an earlier point.

I would therefore like a formal response from Virgin about if any of the above are available on the 360 or if there is a road map to introduce them.  If not I would like someone to contact me direct to discuss reinstating the TIVo (I don't think you can), or to offer me either  discount for the loss of services or the ability to cancel my contract with no penalty.

I'm not happy that these reductions in service standards was not explained before the change from tivo was done.

You'll be waiting for a long time. TiVo-firmware was designed around a recording-first world, and for many years VM chose to licence the software for their TV boxes - thus streaming and other functions have been added over the years.

The broadcasters are now moving in a different direction, encouraging streaming & online-first, and this VM's parent company is encouraging TV360 as the way forward. The platform is fundamentally different to TiVo, and thus has many pros & cons in the feature set.

The T&Cs make no reference to specific features of TV boxes, and are worded to cover the addition & removal of broadcast content, thus you'll have an uphill struggle making an argument that TV360 is some kind of a breach.

My only bit of intrugue here, is the specific circumstances around which your TiVo was swapped out for a TV360. The guidance as far as we're made aware, is that TiVo-boxes are swapped out for V6 as a matter of course - which also run TiVo-firmware. You should reasonably expect field techs to mention a conversion to TV360 as an alternate course of action, but at least with a basic explanation of the differences. The rest, would fall under standard buyer-beware.

Sorry to say this, but you are paying for a box with a certain set of features and not one which has all the features of the one it replaced. It's always been like this. In some ways the 360 is better than the V6, in other ways the V6 is better than then 360. You will never be able to cancel a contract with no penalty for a TV box which you think is deficient compared with its predecessor. And if you did cancel, where would you go for Pay TV? Sky no longer sells its Sky Q box online and pushes its streaming Puck (meaning no recordings allowed).
