Is a V6 box converted to 360 identical to a new 360 box

As title, is a supplied-from-new Virgin 360 box, the same piece of hardware as a V6 box converted to Virgin 360?

If different, are the many problems being reported mainly with one or the other?

Are there any advantages to a supplied from-new-360 box, eg more storage?

Thanks

  • Hardware wise, the older Arris manufactured boxes were designed to operate on both TiVO & Horizon v4+ platforms. A lot of the reports of boxes failing on conversion is down to the age (& usage) of the box being converted.

The Humax, & now the latest Arris produced boxes can only operate on the Horizon platform.

More storage? No. The maximum storage is 1TB, which is encrypted & server managed, so cannot be expanded at the customers end.

If you currently have two or three V6 boxes then you would actually have more storage by converting rather than getting new 360 boxes, as each box has its own 1TB hard disk (though accessing the additional hard disks is a bit of a faff on the 360) and these remain after the conversion. A new 360 install will only have one main box with the 1TB hard disk, any additional boxes will be mini boxes without hard disks.

If you are thinking of changing though, read up on the differences, the 360 is missing a lot of features from the V6 and doesn't add much in return.
