verify your identity

I've had about 20 emails in the last 2 days from Virgin Media O2 asking me to verify my identity. Requests made from various places across the UK on a Windows device with the IP in the message. Each IP address is different.

I've no idea if someone is trying to hack into my Virgin Media account and a little concerned. Is there anything I need to do or how do I go about speaking to someone at Virgin? No idea how to get past the chat bots or the automated system.

Thanks

  • I've been receiving them too. Only started yesterday and again today . Every half hour or so. Have virgin been compromised ?

  • I've had a few of these in the last 24 hours, also from random places across the UK from a Windows device. My account doesn't show anyone actually managed to log in, but it's concerning that a few of us are having the same issue.

  • Thanks Bex and Asherdw1986. They seem to be trying about 4 times in a few minutes every few hours an most likely automated but can't be sure. They're most likely using a VPN but no idea why.

I've no idea if anyone from Virgin come on these boards to answer

  • I've just had this too, 3 emails over night saying I've tried to log in from Gateshead, London and Westminster. Should I be changing passwords etc? Ta all

Certainly sounds very scam-like (possibly someone trying to reset account contact info) but there have been past examples on here of daft scam-like messages, seemingly from VM, which turned out to be genuine.

A VM person should reply here within a few days from the original post. It may be helpful if someone could post an example of the message (with any personal information removed before posting). Needless to say, do not click any links in the meantime!

  • I have also received about 12 of these over the last couple of days all showing that the request was always made from a Windows device but with a different IP address and location every time. The email they are sent from is -  verification@account.virginmediao2.co.uk

The body of the email is -

      Hello steve99uk.

We appreciate you bring this to our attention.

As with anything instances like this and other customers posting the same we are currently investigating the cause and wil lhave a fix in place as soon as possible.

Not that this should be happening in the first instance.

      King regards Gareth_L

        Thanks Gareth,

The screenshot that Steve99 has posted is the same one I've been receiving. In hindsight would have been helpful if I'd have added this to the opening post. It appears to be an official VM email and not a scam as far as I'm aware. Like I've said previously the attempts are being made from multiple IP addresses in the UK and in my case are happening about 4 times in quick succession, over a number of days.

Thanks for your response and I'm sure you'll advise if we need to change passwords etc. Thank you to every one else who has responded also. Feels better knowing it's not just me that it's happening to if that makes sense.

Thanks for confirmation of this, have you made any attempts to change your password and email address associated with that account to prevent this?

        Hi Sabrina,

I don't think this is really the response I was expecting. My account is secured with a passkey which VM states is the highest possible security. I should not need to change my email address. If we had to change email addresses every time there was an issue with different sites then I would end up with all sorts of email addresses and would become unmanageable. I think it's more to do with Virgin investigating how and why this is happening. From the responses above it is not just me it is happening to.
