iPlayer error code 02050

I have a V6 box and I have been sent the new 360 remote. All set up ok but when I go onto iplayer and try and watch a program I get an error code 02050, any ideas please?

Thanks in advance

  • Have you tried rebooting the box by switching the power off and on again with either the switch on the back of the box or at the plug, switch off with the remote first.

If that doesn't work you try a factory reset.

The factory reset has 2 options it's only a partial system reset and not a complete factory reset if you select the Keep recordings option.

These are the factory reset options.

    Keep Recordings

    Format Disk

If you choose the Keep Recordings option that means you won't lose your recordings and any planned recordings or series links you've set up, but you will have to sign into your apps such as iPlayer, Prime, Netflix and ITVX again, also Match frame rate and Standby power consumption will go back to their default settings if you have changed them.

You don't have a V6 anymore. What you've done is converted your V6 (running TiVo-software) to a TV360 (running Horizon software)

Correction. What VM have done is convert a good tv box into a pile of horse manure called a 360...

Don't you still have a TiVo V6 box, so you are not speaking as someone who has actually used a 360, everyone knows there are a lot of missing TiVo patented features (link posted in this thread) so apart from knowing about the missing features I guess there are a few most people don't use. You don't have any experience of using the 360, I have been with Virgin since the Cable and Wireless days so have experienced all the boxes, I miss the quick view/mode feature and the buffering of the 6 channels the most, never really used watchlists, personally I don't have a problem with the 360, undelete option might be nice, and I can get round the 6 channel buffering on European football nights by setting them all to record.

I know not everyone likes the 360 but personally I wouldn't condemn something I haven't tried using.

The original posters problem is nothing to do with the box being a 360, it might just need the box resetting, or reports say it can be the network connection if it's wi-fi try using an ethernet cable and changing the video quality, first thing is to get it working.

Pulling this thread back from being another V6 vs TV360 debate, and trying to help the OP's iPlayer issue....

Do other OnDemand services work? This tests the internet connection?

Do other streaming apps work? This tests the apps... In other words, is this an iPlayer specific issue, or a general connectivity one?

Does this happen on one specific programme? If so, what is it? Or does it happen on multiple?

I recently (in last 10 days) upgraded to 360. Logged into all of my apps including iPlayer. Everything working ok. Went to use iPlayer last night and I am getting the 02050 error code for everything on iPlayer. I have no idea what to do next. I have tried logging out and back in again. I have rebooted the box. I am pretty savvy at these things, but it's not like there is a 'right-click' with options to re-install etc. I have used iPlayer on my phone/laptop and they're fine.

Looks like after another couple of reboots, iPlayer finally working!

this error code is usually because iplayer or the supporting DRM middleware needs an update (controlled by VM). Rebooting or waiting some time then rebooting seems to fix, so wondering if the affected boxes had missed an update, or it had failed previously?

Hi Roblaw24 thanks for your post although we're sorry to hear of your concerns raised here.

Is this still happening for you as it's been a while since the post was originally made?

We're glad that StandardHat you've had your issue resolved by rebooting, we'd recommend anybody else to have the same problem to try the same.

      Many thanks

        Tuning in

resolved by disconnecting hub from power supply, yes pull the plug
        repeat for 360 box
        wait at least 1 minute
power on the hub, let it completely boot up so wifi is restored
        power on the 360 box
I no longer have the 02050 issue thanks to quaries on youtube for the advice
