Flipper Remote Control Code for 360 Box

Hello,

I have purchased the flipper remote control as I need an easy to use remote control for someone in the house who has accessibility requirements.

I have tried all the codes for Virgin Media, Arris (who make the 360 box as it says it on the label underneath with the serial number), etc but I am unable to get the channel change to work.

I have tried the codes from the Flipper support site.

When I dial 150 and try and get help, I simply get asked to put in a mobile number and then get sent a text with a link to setting up a new 360 remote, and am seemingly unable to actually talk to anyone, which is really unhelpful.

Looking forward to some assistance.

Any ideas please?

Many thanks,

  • Try ziggo mediabox next, I use this on my Harmony remote.

  • I don't think the flipper will work from this thread

If you really want to speak to someone when phoning choose the option to report a fault, then ignore all the options offered and you should then be placed into a queue.

  • Thanks for the replies, I am on the phone to Virgin Media now.

  • Right, not good news at all.

The 360 box does NOT have an accessibility remote option at the moment.  The previous boxes did have accessibility remote offering but 360 does not.

To make this worse, the 360 box uses bluetooth for the remote control communication(s) as others have said, so third party remotes for people with disabilities, like the flipper remote: https://www.alzproducts.co.uk/flipper-big-button-remote-control?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAs6-sBhBmEiwA1Nl8s2qt7kekPRnL8mseyMrUNigHi6YVgBQ50YVSA2uNlXj0EShogxa3ixoCxlQQAvD_BwE

    Do not work!!!!

Such a shame and really poor of Virgin to have implemented the 360 box, which is obviously good technology, but to have done so without considering the disabled and have a fit for purpose solution themselves or ensuring the 360 platform could support infrared so third party accessibility remotes could be used for those with disabilities.

The 360 does support IR remote's, the oneforall remotes use IR with the URC7125 and URC1240 being popular choices also my LG TV's smart remote is paired to the 360 using IR. It's just the 360 remote uses Bluetooth or RF4CE to be more accurate.

Interesting, after being on the phone with Virgin Media for an hour, they have told me several times the 360 categorically does NOT support IR. ๐Ÿค”

  • Hi,

Further to my other thread about the Flipper Remote and trying to get it to work with the 360 box, for completeness I wanted to outline the situation:

Unfortunately, the Flipper Remote, which is a widely available, specialist remote control for those with disabilities, will not work on the 360 box as the 360 box only uses bluetooth for its remote control communication.

Sky boxes which also use bluetooth, allow you to go into the settings and enable infrared, which therefore enables the use of specialist third party remote controls for those with disabilities..

Compounding this, Virgin Media do not currently have any accessibility remote solution for the 360, like they did with their previous boxes such as the Tivo.

I am sure Virgin Media are aware of this and sincerely hope they are working quickly on a solution.  As per other threads I have seen in the community, the 360 remote is very poor for the disabled as the buttons are small, the layout seemingly complicated for them, etc.  I cannot believe that in this day and age there has been this significant oversight.

Does anyone know of a solution?  Does anyone know of a third party remote control that will work with the 360 box?

    Many thanks and regards,

      Hello everyone,

Happy to report that I have been able to get the Flipper remote working with my Virgin 360 box. ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€

For completeness and to help others I am going to list out all findings:

Set up is a Sony TV and STB a Virgin Media 360 box. The Flipper remote control is V9.6.

I was able to get the Flipper to control the Sony TV very easily by just punching in one of the codes.  The Virgin 360 box not so easy.

After trying all sorts of different codes, including those given by Flipper support, nothing was working.

I then did a code search as Flipper and Roger_Gooner above stated and followed the instructions as per the link kindly provided by Roger above.

The second lot of code search codes sent got the 360 box to power off.

Therefore, the 360 box DOES have Infrared capability, which is contrary to what Virgin Media told me.

Also, the Virgin 360 remote still works, so what others are saying about it only being possible to have one remote paired at once to a 360 box is incorrect.

I am very happy, as is the disabled person in the house who is now able to control the TV.

The Flipper remote works very well, the volume buttons increase or decrease the TV volume and the Channel forwards and backwards buttons change the 360 channels forwards and backwards. The power on / off button when pressed powers off both the Sony TV AND the 360 box, which is perfect.

Thanks for all your help and happy new year!

Glad to see that you have found a code to get your Flipper remote working.

Just to clarify the part about only having one remote paired to the box, you can only have one Virgin 360 remote paired to the 360 box because the 360 remote is paired using RF, you can then also use other third party remotes using IR.

        Happy New Year ๐Ÿป๐ŸŽ†

VM's STBs support both IR and RF4CE with IR used for initiation of the setup (which is why the 360 or another remote such as Flipper needs line of sight with the 360 box). As you have discovered you can pair both the box and TV with the same remote - but if you want to use advanced features such as voice control then that has to be done with the 360 remote using RF4CE.
