Attempting to record on a disconnected TV360 box

I have two TV360 boxes as part of my package. My main box, in my living room, recently started playing up and sometimes not recording at all, or it recorded partially and then offered an error code when I tried to play back one of those partial recordings.

So, I shut that box down, disconnected it, and moved my 2nd box to my living room. Everything was going fine until this evening when I started receiving an error message when attempting to set up a recording. The error message tells me that my disconnected box is offline.

Any thoughts as to why the system is attempting to record on a disconnected box when there is a perfectly good secondary box that has been successfully recording for several days?

Is there any way for me to remove the failed box from my account until I can find time to get it replaced?

Many thanks for any and all help offered.

George

This is where there is a BIG difference between TiVO & Horizon.

The Horizon backbone is a server at VMs local headend. It is designed to work with cloud based recording, but as the broadcast agreements here won't allow it VM has had to modify the system so your boxes are seen as a cloud location. When you set a recording it is the server that controls the recording location & the master recording list. In turning one box off, the server is now getting errors when it tries to access the recording location, so both boxes need to be available. If a box has developed a fault call VM & they will usually replace it. It is rented after all.

As an interim measure, you will need to use the advanced settings EVERY time you set a recording to specify the box location the recording needs to go to so that it overrides the server.

  • If you have the boxes pictured below and your second box is the one on the right it has no hard drive so can't record, if they are both the same as the box on the left then you can select which box you want to record on by using the advanced options, you can also set the default recording box using the TVGO app, (not sure if that only works for the app).

I would just give Virgin a call and get the faulty box replaced as already advised.

You can fine tune the recordings between boxes by clicking on the red Record button, then on the next screen click Advanced Options, then on the next screen click on Choose TV Box, then select the box you want the recording to be made on, then click on Record. That program will then be recorded on that box going forward, even if the default recording box is one of the others.

When setting up a new series link go to Advanced and select which box you want the recording to be made on. It will then be recorded on that box going forward. If though you've already got a series link set up for a particular program and want to change it so it will record on the other box then you need to cancel that series link, and then set it up to record again, using the advanced options when you press record.
