Advice please

Hello, I am not very clued up on the Virgin media stuff, so take it easy on me.

I recently renewed my package for a cheaper deal. Part of the deal included a 360 upgrade in the contract I received.  I have been sent the new remotes and a new listing on my Home Screen as appeared saying, 'Upgrade to Virgin TV 360 now'.

The question I have is this compulsory? Because having read some reviews I am thinking of ignoring it and staying with the V6 format. However, an agent called me back to assist with the set up, but i wasn't home at the time. I told him of my concerns and he told me that if I didn't upgrade to 360 my price would revert to the old dearer one.

Does anyone know if they can do this

On he other hand  the reviews nothing to worry about and I should just go ahead with the upgrade.

  • The update will happen automatically after about 5 day's of you receiving the remotes and the update appearing on your V6 box.

There are a lot of TiVo features that are patented so will probably never appear on the 360 box, if you have read the reviews and the features you like are missing on the 360 box then it's really down to you to make the choice and probably quickly because once you convert there is no going back.

For myself there are some features from TiVo I miss but can't say I hate the 360 software and need to go back to a V6.

  • Thanks for the reply.

Can you just clarify, that I have  to revert back to my previous contract during the cooling off period to keep on the V6. ( I cant just ignore the update).
My new price is £35 per month cheaper than my last contract, so I don't really want  to revert back to that.

I am just wondering if it updates automatically after a few days, why the agent got so angry and started telling me the price would revert to my old one when I told him I might not do the update manually.

It's a 14-day cooling off period, and if you choose to revert to your previous contract you'll have your V6 and old price. As a 360 user and former V6 user I can tell you that the V6 ain't that much better to justify keeping it at a cost  of £35pm.

For a new customer, the choice of TV360 is non-negotiable. For an existing TiVo/V6 customer, your choice of TV box software is totally separate from whatever package bundle you opt for, and unless that package includes Disney+ or Paramount+ there is no need to voluntarily convert to TV360 unless you want to. Opinions regarding the relative pros & cons of both, vary wildly.

Having said that, if your request to convert to TV360 has been initiated, you can't revert it. The 14day statutory cancellation applies to the package change only - and not the voluntary TV-software conversion.

From the way I read it the package change included the migration to the 360 - hence the reduction of the monthly cost by £35. (I had a similar new contract last year which specified the 360.) On this basis I'm inclined to think that the cooling off clause is relevant and the OP can revert to the previous contract.

Having the voluntary software conversion "as part of" a contract renegotiation is exactly what some VM sales agents would have you believe, but the two elements are totally separate.

Equally the 14days statutory cooling-off applies perfectly well to the package change, but not to the voluntary software conversion.

I've gone through 2 re-contracts being offered the TV360 conversion and declining, without there being any pricing implications.

I'd be cautious in forming your belief based up this as VM CS staff are not exactly clued up on what is or is not contractual.

  • Thanks for the replies. I did warn you I wasn't very well clued up on this stuff.

Just for info this is what it states on the contract..

You bought:  Netflix Standard, Mega TV, Virgin TV 360 box, Additional TV box. (Plus add ons)

I have decided I probably won't revert to the old contract, because of the £35 I'm saving with the new one.

    • As it says in the contract  I have got the 360 box. Am I right in thinking that It will definitely change over in the next few days, then.

It will load the 360 software automatically apparently, so if you have any recordings you haven't seen you need to watch them. You might also want to make a note or take a picture of any series link's you have because they don't get transferred and with the 360 you can can only reset the series link's when the programme's are shown on the EPG, when setting a series link use the Advanced options and select the 'new only' option.

It would be safe to conclude you accepted an invitation to the convert to TV360 alongside your package change, and that can't be backed out. Regardless of whatever you do with your package.

If you have a V6, then you should receive the new remote in "a few days". Once that lands, you have a short time to voluntarily initiate the conversion via menu icons on your V6 - after which it will be automatically done for you.

Your series links and recordings will be lost as part of the hard drive reformat.

Edited to add Roger_Gooner "I'd be cautious in forming your belief based up this as VM CS staff are not exactly clued up on what is or is not contractual." The position I have outlined above has been confirmed by VM forum management in the closed-VIP section of this board, I would not have said what I have, without being confident in doing so.

  • Ok, thanks everyone. At the end of the day I suppose having to change to the 360 is worth a £35 per month saving.
