360 Upgrade

Supposedly an upgrade but actually a nightmare.

My 80 year old father's media box 'upgraded' to 360 and it's awful, he's very much an analogue person, no computer, tablet or smartphone but he could manage using the TiVo software after years of getting used to it but now this abomination and step back is actually causing him harm, everyday I get, "why has it changed" "can it change back" "can we change supplier" "it's a mess" "it's taken all the pleasure out of watching tv" "I just want to smash it to pieces".

It is a mess, in no way user friendly or intuitive and the voice command is no use, besides the grief I'm getting it's actually harming him, yes, it may seem silly but it is detrimental to his mental health.

  • It is a mess and I am in that same place. Please make sure he gets compensation for the mess

Migrations from TiVo/V6 > TV360 are never compulsory unless you choose a TV package that includes Paramount+ or Disney+ which are not available on the older software.

With that in mind, your 80yo father would have had to request, or accept an invitation to, convert from either a legacy TiVo (which was box-swapped to TV360) or from a V6 (for which he'd receive the new remote first) - it should not have happened without some intervention from him.

Fundamentally TiVo-software & Horizon-software (which drives TV360) are very different with some substantial variations in functionality.

Can you explain how your father came to be converted to TV360?

  • Just to add to japitts answer someone must have accepted the update offer, the reason is why really if he was very happy with what he had, would he change.  I know you say your father is 80 so he possibly wouldn't have checked for the difference between V6 and 360 on the forum. Was he offered a cheaper deal by Virgin.

  • A sibling hit the upgrade after this email,

                                                              ***************

'Just a heads up that the Virgin TV box you currently have is using old software, which means you aren’t getting the most out of your services.

The good news is, we can upgrade you to a new Virgin TV 360 box at no extra cost.'

                                                              ****************

The email has no indication of just what a major 'upgrade it was, other than recordings would not be transferred.  This is a sea change, something like finding your windows pc is running apple o/s.

I've already seen out a parent with dementia and it may seem trivial but changes like this are a big deal.

  • Hi GeneralUse,

Thanks for your post and welcome to our community.

We're very sorry to hear about the issues your Dad is having with the 360 upgrade.

Can you advise please what specifically about the 360 set up is causing concern? Is he unable to access certain features or apps for example? If so, if he getting any error message?

Please pop back to us when you can.
