360 offer question

Hi

I got the email to get the 360 box for free. Will this start a new contract? I still have the Tivo box and it's getting tired. Wouldn't mind the new box but don't want to start another contract.

Can I go ahead & order via the link in the email to get the free upgrade with no ties?

Thanks

  • Some might argue that a tired Tivo is still superior to a new 360. Have a good look through the forum on this.

    Don't do it. It's a downgrade.

VM are keen as it saves them money on tivo licences. i.e. an 'upgrade' for them.

Ask for a V6 if you want a change. Best way is to report your old Tivo box as faulty due to slowness.

To add to the previous replies, just do some homework on what TV360 involves, and choose whether to convert or not, with an informed mind. Migrating to TV360 is a one-way process.

TiVo-firmware drives the legacy-TiVo and newer-V6 boxes, and is very recording-centric with a good streaming option added on.

Horizon-firmware drives the TV360 and is fundamentally different to TiVo. It's very online-centric with a recording option retrofitted.

There are many difference between the two approaches, and opinions vary wildly with pros & cons both ways. Please do some research, and whatever you choose - do so on an educated basis, not driven by some fancy glossy.

Your contract bundle should not be affected in any case - all you're choosing here, is which software platform your TV box runs on. It's analogous to deciding whether to use Apple or Android for your mobile phone.

Thank you for reaching out with your query. As it's been advised already, kindly by our Community members, the upgrade will not tie you into a new contract should you wish to proceed with the upgrade.
