TV 360 Questions

I have just been upgraded from V6 and Tivo to 360 and Mini-Box, and so far I don't see much improvement, as I don't use Netflix, Paramount+ etc.

My main gripes revolve around the recordings, and the fact that there no longer appears to be a 'Recently Deleted' part, so no way of retrieving deleted recordings, without going into iPlayer, ITVX or whatever to try and find them again.

Secondly, when I have set 'series links' on the new system, it is recording all episodes, including repeats. If I try and cancel the repeat, it clears the whole lot. There has got to be a way to set it so that it only records an episode once?

Also, the box that the new equipment came in isn't big enough to put the Tivo box in, and there is no label or anything, but it is telling me to send it back. Can I just take the equipment, in a carrier bag or something, to an O2 (or Virgin Media) store nearby?

finally, and least importantly, is there a way to get a second remote for the main 360 box? When it was a V6 box, my wife and I both had remotes for it.

Sorry but you have discovered the major difference, there is no  recently deleted recordings folder.  If you accidently delete a recording then I'm afrid there is no way to get it back.  It's been passed on as feedback many times and seems unlikely to change.

TV360 is based on the Horizon Entertainment Platform which is Liberty Global (VM's owners) inhouse system which  was originally  rolled out in the Netherlands, Switzerland and Belgium.  The platform has been specially adapted to fit into the UK market and provide recordings.  In the rest of Europe it uses cloud storage which is the next path VM are on with the introducation of their Ip based Stream boxes.

When pressing the red button to set a recording, on the screen that opens click on Advanced options. Another screen opens with additional options.  The series link starts from the season you set it too ie if there are 8 seasons and you set the 1st recording at season 4 it will record seasons 4 to 8.  The 360 no longer records repeats of shows that you have watched and then deleted.

If you want to delete a show from the Recordings screen instead of clicking OK and 'Delete recording' you can press the Record button and you get the 'Delete show' option.
The Delete Shows option is in Recordings > Recorded > View All > Manage Storage. You'll need your PIN. If you have more than one series recorded and you want to delete the whole series, select the series on the left and press record button and you'll get a 'Delete series' menu.

VM don't currenlly need the older tivo boxes to be returned, however you can either use yuor own packaging, request returns packaging, or return the equipment via a nearby O2 store (All VM stores in the UK closed with the outbreak of Covid).

You can use the following online webform to request packaging

    /virgin-media-return-or-recycle-equipment/request-returns-pack

You can also use the following link to print out your own returns label and use your own packaging.

    https://www.yodel.co.uk/returns/virgin

After clicking Create a new label. you will be prompted for your email address. Once you receive the email you will be able to print out a returns label which includes a barcode. You can then parcel up your equipment and drop it off at the nearest Collect + store. Enclose a covering note with your account number and details of the returned equipment including serial numbers.

Make sure you receive a tracking receipt and keep it safe.

** Use either or both of the following links to find your nearest store (they have different shops listed)

    https://www.collectplus.co.uk/find-a-store

     https://www.collectplus.yodel.co.uk/store-locator?v=2.

You can also return your equipment via an O2 store if you have a local one. If you do take that route then make a note of your account number along with the serial numbers of any equipment you are returning and give that to the O2 staff, retaining a copy yourself and possibly get them to sign for it/and or take a photo.

Regarding additional remotes.   The TV360 box can only be paired with one 360 remote at a time.

You can download and use the TVGo app (available for android and ios) as an extra remote.

Some TV's smart remotes also work with the 360 box. I have an LG smart remote and set it up to control my 360. Some TV's recognise the box as Virgin, with others you may need to search for Ziggo, or Ziggo Mediabox Next.

You can also use a  third party remote such as the OneForAll URC7125 - use the SimpleSet setup process and choose Ziggo manufacturer

Or the OneForAll1240 -you need to enter the code 1582, It's not as expensive as the 7125 and has 4 selects so it can be used with tv/sat/amp/dvd. I use this one, but found I had to have direct line of sight when first setting it up.

I suggest if wanting to try the One For All remotes then purchase them from Amazon as you can return them if you find them unsuitable.

14days statutory "change of mind" right of return is available from any online purchase as a matter of course. It's not something unique to Amazon.

Fundamentally, TiVo (the software that drives TiVo & V6 boxes) and Horizon (the software that drives TV360) are completely different with many substantial differences.

TiVo-firmware is very recording driven, with all the popular streaming apps added on (the obvious exceptions being Paramount & Disney). TV360 is very online-centric, with recording retro-fited for the UK market.

As already mentioned by newapollo, undelete is one of the differences. TiVo offers it, TV360 doesn't. The advanced recording tweaks are another - TV360 does offer some, but not all, that TiVo/V6 has. With a V6, you can choose how repeats & older episodes are handled, with the default being one-copy-only.

  • Secondly, when I have set 'series links' on the new system, it is recording all episodes, including repeats. If I try and cancel the repeat, it clears the whole lot. There has got to be a way to set it so that it only records an episode once?

If you are still having this problem with episode's being recorded again try using the 'From this episode onwards' option when setting a series link.

  • Just to add if you have a series link recording either in your actual or planned recordings if you go onto the programme and go to the pencil icon (I think it’s a pencil lol) and click it will give you the option to change the recording options. Personally I use new episodes only the majority of the time.  I agree it is slightly annoying that I have to remember to do this whenever I set a new series link, even though it’s 2nd nature to me now.
