360 and ethernet questions

Hi

I'll try and make this as quick as.

Firstly, I have had a problem with the Ethernet connector in the back of my V6 box, I have 2 boxes and the problem is exactly the same on both, neither is a good tight fit and the plug wobbles around in the socket, obviously leading to a bad connection,  does anyone have any brilliant ideas, please.

Secondly, my original TIVO V6 box decided to give up the ghost last week after I tried to reset the Channel listing's via the reset in the settings section, because I was having a problem with various channels becoming unwatchable due to severe pixillation, and I thought it might help, but it basically killed my box, which decided to go into a never ending loop of trying to download the channels.

Anyway, got in touch with VM and they sent me a new V6 box with a 360 remote.... Now my question is, considering that I only use the TV box for watching/recording programs and like to be able to rewind if I need to, and I don't use many of the other features other than catch-up, do I upgrade to 360 or leave it as a TIVO  setup ?, as I've read all the awful comments about the 360 system.

Just to add a couple of bits, I obviously haven't installed the new box yet, and from what I'm reading I'm hoping that I can stay with the old system.  When I spoke with the Technician on the phone who organised the box, I specifically asked for a V6 box, but he said it would be with "New" software  ??.

Many thanks for looking

A V6 refers to the box running TiVo-software, TV360 refers to it running Horizon-software - there's also account-level changes to support whichever software-platform your TV service uses. This is to say that a migration happens on both your account and your TV box.

TiVo is a recording-centric platform with most of the popular streaming platforms added on. TV360 is built as an online/app-centric platform first, with recording added for the UK market.

Only you can decide which platform is more likely to suit you, but I do rather suspect that the tech's reference to "new" software means TV360.

For your other points - pixellation is usually a signal fault of some kind, a standard restart is part of diagnostics but there's no need for anything more severe.

    Hi japitts

    Many thanks for the reply.

So correct me if I'm wrong, I have a new box from virgin, it looks exactly like my old box, same connection etc, TV360 is basically just a software upgrade, and not built into the hardware of the box, and I can choose to have it, Should I want it, but I can actually choose which system I go with, and don't have to upgrade if I don't want to  ?.

Would have there been any changes on my account at virgin ?

    Many Thanks for your help

If you have received a 360 remote, AFAIK there is no going back.  The V6’s will get a software upgrade to the Horizon 360.  Both boxes will be done as you can’t run both.  Yes this is a change to your account and can’t be reversed.  You will lose all recordings on the boxes as the hard drives will be wiped as part of the software install.

Well, as an update, I've just installed the new box, fully expecting to find a whole new system at the end of it, but as I hadn't unpacked the new 360 remote, every time it asked me what I wanted to do, I used the old remote to "Press OK"

Anyway, it seems that as I didn't use the 360 remote, everything has gone back to exactly how it was, so it seems that I can use this new box with the old, better TIVO setup.

Anyway, thank you everyone for all your help and I hope you all have a spectacular weekend.

I really hope it stays that way.  The arrival of a 360 remote usually is the start of the Horizon software upgrade.  Maybe, just maybe, your account wasn't updated to reflect the software update?

Anyway, you will know in a while, as I believe the update, once triggered by VM, will be installed "hands off" at some point.
