Can't register for My Virgin Media

I've tried registering for My VM on my laptop and on the app, but every time I enter my surname, account number and area code it says 'account not found'. It's very frustrating! I can't call for help either, as this requires putting in my account number, which doesn't seem to be recognised. However, I am definitely entering the details supplied to me.
