Why can't I get virgin media both neighbours have it?

Both neighbours have virgin media installed. But I've been told that I can't receive any services. I've contacted virgin 4 times, they were supposed to call me back. But never do. Every house on the road is listed when you check to see if you can get the service except mine.

  • Hi, some background info before an answer of sorts....

virgin use their own cables etc, so totally separate to bt. This means virgin need to have cables running past your property which they can tap into and run to your house. Note all other providers piggy back on bts lines.
if your neighbours have virgin, this means you probably will be ok. I say probably as i have virgin as i have a frontage to the main road and virgin ran a fibre cable up my garden to my house. One neighbour also has main road access and has virgin. The other neighbour has no main road access and cant access virgin (unless virgin invest in running fibre into the housing estate itself, not likely for now)

so, if your property has direct acces to wherever your neighbours cable goes to, you can get virgin. It must be direct access, not through someone elses property..

assuming you do, then virgin ought to be ok.....i say ought as their systems may not recognise you have access. I had to convince virgin i had main road access when i originally moved from bt....Good luck talking with them 🙂

  • Hello, just wanted to post here in the hope that I could get some help too. I'm going to be moving into a house conversion flat and was hoping to get Virgin Media broadband, but after looking at the postcode checker online it appears that I cannot get it for some reason. In this example, I am Flat 41b:

    House 39: Services available
House 41 (doesn't exist, but address is listed): Services available
    Flat 41a: Services unavailable
    Flat 41b: Services unavailable
    House 43: Services available

So yeah, I can't get it even though both of my neighbours can. It also looks like the address of the house before it was converted into 2 flats is showing and apparently CAN receive services, but when it was converted into flats it now cannot. Is there anything that can be done about this? Help, please?

If it helps any, I would be looking to take on a business account as 2 are run from this premises.

  • Hello, another one here.

All the houses on my street can get services, as can the houses on the adjoining streets.

My address is not listed at all, so I filled out the online form, but have never heard back from anyone.

I am a fully detached house with frontage onto the road, so either my house is missing from your database or the property was never cabled for some reason.

    Can someone help please?

      Hi SteveMcD1 👋

Thanks for posting, and a warm welcome to our Community Forums.

I'm sorry to hear you're having some trouble with the serviceability of your property, and it being recognised online. The serviceability of a property depends on various factors. Whilst the cabling may be in place in the nearby homes, there may be no space in your local cabinet, or in previous instances, we have checked and we need to go through a neighbour's property, and this has been refused.

I'm going to send you a private message, so I can assist further with this. Please look out for it in the top-right, white envelope or by tapping your profile picture and selecting the "My Messages" tab.

      Thanks,

  • Hi,

I'm in the same situation. Had cabling installed directly to my house many months ago and a letter through the door saying virgin is available but the online system doesn't register my address as having access to virgin (although does for my neighbours)

    Can anyone help please?

  • Hey I’m also in the same situation, both my neighbours have access to virgin media

  • I have just found this thread.  I am in a street of 1930s houses and several of my neighbours have Virgin Broadband but when I put my house number in it says it is not available to me.  I tried putting in other house numbers into the Virgin Broadband form.  Some houses already have it, some don't have it but it is available to them if they want it but other like me can't have it.  There seems to be no pattern to it.  The cable must run outside all the houses in the street including the ones Virgin says it can't doesn't supply.  I remember them digging up the pavement some years ago.  The houses have been there for 90s years and are all similar style.  So why does Virgin want to supply some and not others?  The alternative broadbands are getting slower and slower so it would be good if Virgin was an option for everyone in the street.

Thanks for your post and welcome to our community. Sorry to hear yours and several other properties are not connected to our network.

Would you be okay supplying some details if I sent you a private message? As i would like to see if it's possible to get services with us.

If you can check your logo at the top right of your screen that would be great.

I'm having the same issue. Our whole street has fibre and only Virgin provide this. Earlier this year, the only neighbour left on the road without access had a cable run to their house, and the third party installing it advised me our house wasn't on their jobs to do, which was slightly frustrating as I'd contacted virgin over the form and called multiple times. I get varied responses from the call centre which is very confusing. I'd like to understand simply how I can get this fixed as it seems very simple running a cable to the street, especially when I'm redoing my drive and digging it up anyway.

  • Hi There,

In the same boat as everyone else. Recently bought a house and the availbility checker says I do not have access to virgin. I spoke to my next door neighbour and he has virgin media, and his virgin box is located right next to my drive way.

It seems like it should be easy enough to install virgin into my house as it just has to go up through my driveway but after doing the availbility checker and phoning numerous times I am still no further forward.

Any help would be massively appreciated, hopefully someone could escalate this as my cooling off period with my current provider is coming to an end soon.

    Thanks
