SIP settings

Hello,

This is probably unlikely but I thought I would ask any way. Does anybody here know if Virgin Media can supply SIP details for Home Phone? I would really like to be able to obtain these settings if it is possible, so that I don't have to use the Superhub's digital > analogue conversion.

Cheers,
Richie

  • VM’s implementation it not a real internet phone so it does not use SIP. At present it’s just a way of getting rid of the analog exchanges.

      Tuning in

      Hey Tudor,

Thank you for that info, that's really helpful! I guess I'll need to stick with my analogue to VoIP hardware for the time being. I have FreePBX set up at home so that I can use IP phones and have better control over annoying scam calls etc. so have to use a Grandstream HT813 so that I can use the Virgin line with the setup.

      Cheers,
      Richie

        Hi Richard,

Apologies for the message out of the blue on this topic, but I've just joined Virgin and have been banging my head agianst a brick wall trying to work out how to use my IP phones with the Virgin Media landline set-up and saw your post describing your set-up, which I think solves my challenge.

I have a Hub 4.0 with Tel1 port (RJ11) on the back (and a BT phone ATA, provided by VM), but my Yealink IP phones connect through a Yealing base station that acts as a SIP endpoint and requires a ethernet (RJ45) connection. When I connect that to any of the LAN ports, it obviously doesn't pick up the line.

Similar to your initial question on the thread, I was hoping to get SIP details from VM to configure the base station, but nobody at VM seems to be able to help.

Are you saying that by creating a FreePBX account and using the Grandstream HT813 you are able to use your IP phones to connect & use the Virgin Media landline?

Any advice or direction you can provide on this would be much appreciated.

        Thanks

We migrated all our telephones numbers to VOIP provider Sipgate.
From VM we just have an internet service thus avoiding VM's Hub based analogue phone service.

VM will not provide SIP a/c details for their so misleadingly called domestic VOIP service.

I am confused as to why one would buy Yealink IP VOIP phones when you do not have a SIP VOIP Provider ?
