Retreive old landline number

Hi. I recently moved landline and broadband over from BT to Sky. Before BT, this was with Virgin for many years. Sky have been unable to port the old landline number over - they said the system is saying the number still belongs to Virgin which is weird since the number moved over to BT. I have spoken to all three providers and no one is able to locate the number and help with this. Getting very desperate now as I've been trying for almost two months! Hope someone can help.

  • Hey ChelleB1, thank you for reaching out and a warm welcome to the community, we are sorry to hear about your telephone port.

With a telephone port it would be down to your old provider and new provider to sort this.

As long as the number is active this shouldn't be a problem.

However you would need to ask your new provider to swap it over, they will reach out to new provider and they will sort it out.

It's not exactly correct to say that the company 'owns' the number. If the number has been moved around, the company shown may not be able to help.

Yes, that's true. It will be between the gaining/losing provider who need to sort the number port.

I was thinking more along the lines that the OP could do their own double check on ownership of the number. The number may have reverted back to VM (if VM does own it) if something had gone wrong in the porting process either now or in the past and since two months have elapsed.
