Port a number from Virgin to Virgin

Bit of an odd one!

My son lives at home and works for O2. O2 gave him a VM staff discount for Broadband TV and Phone but to take this up I had to cancel my contract and verify that he was allowed to take over the new contract at our address. 

The only problem with this is we have lost our old landline number.

Can VM port the old number over to the new account?

    Sorry to see that you've now lost your landline number. Unfortunately we are unable to transfer numbers from one Virgin account to another if they are in different names. Unless the number was ported to another provider when the Virgin account was still active this number will now be lost.

    The only time we can move the number to another account is when the accounts are both in the same name via a move and transfer.

    So to confirm, if my business provider were to do me a favour and port the number to their system, VM could port it back? They've managed to pull a number back from the brink before for me so it could be worth a shot.

     Would VM charge me for doing their side?
