Phone not working

Landline phone is dead. Display on handset is working, so not that.

  • There are no problems with kit or in the area according to that.

  • Hey clareet2021,

The engineer came when person on phone said he would. I was out but my partner was in. They said that an adult needed to be there, or it would cost £25. What they didn't say was that he needed my memorable word. Eventually they got hold of me, the engineer did wait half an hour. When I got in, he had got the phone working, but it is now on the digital network. We hadn't previously been changed over. I don't know whether the line was deliberately cut off in order to convert us, or if there was a fault, and they took the opportunity to convert us. Last year we received a notification that it was going to happen, and then one saying it had been postponed. No notification this time, and presumably they don't just cut people off without telling them to make an engineer appointment.

Just seen all the replies in my Junk folder by the way. Thanks.

Thanks for the update clareet2021, and we're pleased to hear you have a working phone line once again.

We would advise that as there is a switchover in technology, overtime all landline phones will work via a broadband hub and therefore the ability and requirement to fix copper landline services will become less and less.

        Thanks,

        David_Bn

  • I'm about to post a similar problem in my area, Leeds. I'll suggest trying a different phone in that socket and trying that phone in a different socket, maybe even a neighbours.

My landline has been dead for days. No dial tone so no outgoing calls possible. It was set to divert calls to my mobile anyway so when I ring my landline it does divert. The service status page alternates from saying no problems in my area to sorry about the fault we are working hard to fix it, and of the course the expected repair time comes and goes. How can the phone not work for days??

      Hi kolvin1 👋

Welcome back to our Community Forums and thanks for your post.

Sorry to hear to hear your experiencing issues with your landline.

If the Service Status page advises of a fault, then I can assure you our engineers will be working on it.

Is there an update on the estimated time of fix?

It depends. The website says there are no issues. Ring up and there is an automated message saying that it is being worked on. The fix time is usually set at 4 or 8pm that day but the days come and go. It's a general fault in this area but it has been days now

Hi GaryGorilla thanks for your post although we're sorry to hear of your concerns raised.

We have ran some checks and there doesn't appear to be any issues on the line, so please allow me to send you a PM so I can look into this further for you.

Expect the PM to arrive shortly and respond directly when you can!
        Many thanks

  • Our landline was dead from the very beginning. We’ve been the entire 18 months of our contract without a landline. We couldn’t find anyone to resolve so in the end just gave up. Virgin Media are awful and their customer service is non-existent.

I hope you managed to get your issue resolved clareet2021
